lot of work is going on East-West connectivity in Mumbai suburbs which will help daily commuters. But if the connectivity between the extended suburbs like Mira-Bhayander to Thane to Navi Mumbai is worked on now it will ease the load on road and local trains which is increasing heavily everyday.
I do a lot of work related travel. Except faridabad, had been to all cities mentioned in the above list. Among other cities I think Ahmedabad, Pune and Kanpur deserves rapid mass transportation system more than other cities mentioned above. Especially in Ahmedabad and Pune there is a lot of home-workplace-home travel which takes more than 1 hr. each side.
Pune having only discussions.....pathetic buses and hell rikshaws..evryday hearing about PMPML bus frequency increase and survey/talk on pune metro..But seems nothing will come.....Transport always costly and no PUBLIC TRANBSPORT at all.....
MMRDA should think beyond Mumbai and extend metro upto Mira Bhyandar in Westerns Suburbs and Thane in the Central suburb. If Mumbai facility is given to extended suburbs people will move away from Mumbai and de-congest the city. When there is a development it should be all round and not limited to one place for political and builders interest.

Pune corporators are fighting whether to have it elevated or under ground. No decision as yet. Kalmadi when he gets kicked out after CWG, will be given this task for making more money.
Hyderabad Metro would have been built and operational by now if not for the Satyam Maytas scam. The project was given to Maytas firm and they were found to be scamsters.
Inspired by the recent regular praising and approvals by Mr Obama and every Tom, Dick and Harry in America that India is not a developing country anymore, but a major power and global power, Leh, Sangrur, Moga, Pipli, Alang, Nagpur, Sholapur, Kanyakumari, Dantewada, Gangtok, Raipur, Patna, Goa, Bellary, Belgaum, Tirupati, Ooty, Puri, Jabalpur, Varanasi, Bikaner also want Metro and have already sent their proposals to the Planning Commission and the central government.

Delhi will remain most corrupt, inefficient, unsafe, unprofessional & dirty city of world. Asian games could not improve it. same will happen after CWG . Mindset of avg person here is corrupt & arrogane. So this city can't move. Metro rail was little sucess courtsey Sreedharan otherwise if it was in govt hand, this could also have failed.

it would be an environmental hazard. linking small regional rivers may be an alternative, though
