no metro in pune?
by mahesh patil on Oct 09, 2010 08:17 PM  | Hide replies

Trafic situation in pune is chaotic,
infrastrutcural limitations are very open ,
but
few people of pune are such pseudo-intellectuals that whenever theres talk of metro in town , they start crying out some useless issues
due to which, metro project has remained on the same discussion level since many many years.

These metros will be built many years behind schedule, with severe cost overrun, severe corruption and sub standard work, putting life of commuters in risk.

WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE 50 YRS. AGO AT 1/1000TH OF COST IS BEING 'PLANNED' IN INDIA NOW AFTER FILLING UP THE COFFERS AT PERSONAL & GOVT. LEVELS! NOW IT IS GOING TO COST AT LEAST 10000% MORE THAN THE COSTS 50 YRS. AGO. ALL SENSIBLE COUNTRIES DID SUCH BASIC INFRASTRUCTURE DECADES AGO.

I know from someone closely involved in the project of Chennai metro...that all this was planned back in 1970s. But implementation is the problem....it is getting done only now!

by united india on Oct 09, 2010 10:26 AM  | Hide replies

One---WHOLE India should be connected with closed door metros instead of rail,as trains passing esp from Bihar & Bengal r looted by dacoits every day...
Second---Until & unless Govt stops ILLEGAL and thousands of people entering every MONTH from PAk-Bangladesh & Nepal,no METRO Rail would solve the TRAFFIC congestion in CITIES...

We need speed in implementation.
by amit agarwal on Oct 09, 2010 10:24 AM

lot of time is spent in doing feasibility studies. By the time the work starts the cost of building the project doubles. We need to urgently improve infrastructure in 2 & 3 tier cities so that migration stops and the pressure on metro cities reduces. For e.g. if one visits Mathura (U.P. West) a religious town it is crowded throughout the year. The people of such cities are more attracted towards big metros like Delhi, Mumbai etc. Families are forced to run to Agra (55kms from Mathura) for serious medical cases or to Delhi (155kms). By the time the patient reaches he/she dies. First the local hospitals themselves do all sorts of experiment with patients. The roads are narrow, dirty, full of dust. We need latest machines to clean our roads. No need to layoff any municipal employee. Divide the workforce in 2 shifts of 12 hours each and clean the roads with latest machines. Same strategy can be used in metro cities. Time has come to act fast else we will never come out of the developing country status.

Widening the Road
by MEENAKSHI SUNDARAM on Oct 07, 2010 07:01 PM  | Hide replies

First all the parties in Kerala should allow the widening the roads and build flyover in important junctions like Vytila in Cochin. After that they can think over metro rail

How are the both even related? Metro rail takes a bulk of traffic off the road.

It will be no short of a miracle if metro railway comes to Kerala with the corrupt & obstructionist Left Democratic Govt. or equally infamous United Democratic Govt. and the challenge-everything and only-rights-and-never-duties-minded majority people! God's 'own' country - my foot!.

Key is point to point commute
by sk ms on Oct 06, 2010 10:08 AM

To address the issue more thoughts and work need to be done on point to point commute. Main reason people choose personal transport is this conveneience. From each metro station if there are shuttle services like tata magic or swaraj mazda that takes people to their destination at fixed price and not have to negotiate and fight with unruly auto drivers then people will prefer it. Also explore the possibility of rental cycles within city once people land at metro station they can rent a cycle , go around and return to the station ofcourse with UID , DL or any other autheticated ID and valid metro pass so that security is not concern.
