Whether we will be leader or not is a ?, but when relief in corruption, employment, control on unwanted population, discipline in public life, fear free social set up will be seen. All these progress are useless if basic needs are not met. We are still starving for clean drinking water, even to improve rationing system etc.,etc.,

Will India exist till 2050
by GUN BOC on Apr 01, 2010 11:31 AM

In my opinion we should focus on survival of India rather than growth, with high rate of terrorism from neighbourhood countries, internal unrest and riots, India may not exist till 2050

Growth is good no doubt to pull many out of poverty.

But equally opposite effect due to inflation which drags millions back into poverty due to unable to afford basics like food, housing etc because of rising prices.

Always such articles only half the story is told

Why this will be India's century!
by Amit Arora on Apr 01, 2010 07:13 AM  | Hide replies

In terms of purchasing power parity, India is the fourth largest economy, after the US, China and Japan, in that order; it recently overtook Germany. By 2010, India is projected to overtake Japan. Many economic observers believe that in the next 20 years India real GDP can potentially grow at 10 per cent if it pursues reforms vigorously.

but still, ppl living in abject poverty and in inhuman conditions will be 40% as is now. there's No meaning of such growth, when the ppl of the country live in conditions worse than those of animals.

Germany's population is less than Maharashtra's.
Japan's population is probably less than Mumbai.
Even if we grow our real or unreal or semi real GDP or whatever other fancy name we have, by more than 10% for the next 10 years, we will still be largely a less poor country, at best. One mistake, one tiny war with a leper across the border, we'll remain a poor country.
We need to focus on population control, education, agricultural growth, infrastructure growth & security both internal & external, with single minded concentration, nay devotion, for the next 50 years to achieve a general living standard of our citizens to come close to say Thailand or maybe even Korea. After that we can start thinking of little better 2nd world countries like Dubai or Singapore.
Even the Asian First World, i.e. Japan is a long way off, the Western true First World Countries like Germany & France (not US) are still light years away.

My Dear KN, this is sheer genius. You have spotted such a great error, it turns my argument completely on its head. But first of all, thank you for correcting me and recommending an alternate name. Japan's population is 127.704 million (it took me less than a second to verify this on Google), which indeed is more than Mumbai's population.

When I earlier said that it was less than Mumbai's population I was implying that it is stupid to compare the GDP of a 1200 MM population country with a > 20 Mn country. Now that I know Japan's population is 127.704 MM, the argument is completely invalid, because now it is perfectly alright to compare the GDP of India & Japan.

Indeed with this eye to detail and understanding of the overall picture, you must be a teacher or professor somewhere, who else after all can shape the future minds of this great country?

I'll finally leave you with a question, you no doubt have heard of the six blind men and the elephant?

Look at the bigger picture in life, you nitpicking Moron.

yes sir. The population growth has made all our achievements/ GDP growth etc WORTHLESS. our denominator- i.e. the population - has made all difference. If PJ Nehru, our respected first PM, had implemented compulsory birth control and if by any chance, our population is just 600 million, then we will be one of the best country to live in; More open space, comfottable train and city buses. Gentlemean and all readers- have u ever seen a Bombay suburban train? and a Madras city bus? the Madras city bus carries 150 souls/ u can not even breath inside, so are Bobay suburban trains>

Its funny. Whole world believe that India would emerge as economic power. But indian themselve dont believe in it. We are so full of negativity. Thanks to our life style. Gossoping, blaming, pulling each other's leg. Now wonder the result we have created is in front of us - chaose everywhere.
They say you change the inside, the thinking, the belief and outside will change. When can we believe that we will be among top 3 countries in next few decade. we have to belive in it. then action, behaviour will flow accordingly to fulfill the vision of top 3. If we keep laughing at this. Guess where we are headed ?

AA, Purchasing Power is another economic crap term. It basically means what you can purchase with your money in your country. A high purchasing power in India, essentially implies, that there is a class of people so poor in India, that the same INR, which will not buy you a Soda Water in the US, will get you significant benefits in India. Let me explain, a maid servant in the US, earns around 15,000 USD p.a. i.e. around Rs. 750,000.00 p.a. In India a maid servant earns approximately, Rs. 24,000.00 p.a. So a person can get a Maid in India for say 1 hour a day, at Rs. 500 per month. The same Rs. 500, i.e. 10 USD will get nothing in the US.
What this physically means is that the US Maid, actually has a life similar to an Indian earning around Rs. 7.5 lacs per annum, including a Honda / Ford Car and Life & Medical insurance, except that she cannot afford maid servants herself in the US.
Whereas in India, the maid servant will live a sub human life, in a slum, victimized by politicians, walking around 500 m for water, any water drinking, bathing etc., frequently defecating on the streets due to non availability of toilets, walk around 1 - 5 km each way, to reach her place of work. In case of minor diseases like common cold etc., her employers will expect her to damn well attend work, in case of more severe diseases ranging from Jaundice to AIDs acquired from her husband, she'll probably die. Thats Purchasing Power Parity, PPP. A Harely costs the same in the US an

Fool's paradise
by manish kumar on Mar 31, 2010 11:07 PM  | Hide replies

the reason i am writing this is i am not able to sleep due to power cut. I have worked from 8:00 am to 10:00pm today and have to leave early for office again tomorrow.
Consider this, i have been paying 45,000 tax per month on a salary of 1,60,000, have to live in this hell hole called Delhi and see our politicians fighting over why AB shared a dais with Narendra Modi. Or why we require 33% reservation for women.
I have to store water in the night so that i can take a bath in morning. It is amazing that the dolts in the railway ministry have still not able to guarantee a travel on train and every travel planning is a night mare of agents, waitlisted tickets, scramble for Tatkals tickets, VIP quota and while you are 4 hours away from travel you find ticket is not confirmed.
I can write on an on on the subject of the amazing foolisheness that pervades in all walks of our life and the lack of any foresight in all activities of planning but then let the optimists on the web still revel in the feel good factor.

i also agree that there is no excuse anymore for not having a good life in Delhi. look at all the high price of property..they must collect lot of property tax and stamp duties etc.govt is def having money.
i met a Delhi girl recently and she said she was an only child and her dad was worth a few crores ..but still she wanted to emigrate overseas! because quality of life in Delhi was bad.
what is the reason ?! this sort of thing cannot be tolerated for long.

It is all bull potty!

Our cartoon PM sits and comes up with fantasy numbers in his free time (time he gets when he is off duty from serving her royal highness) and then has this brain-dead media publish them to give desperate investors false hopes!!

And they live for such nonsense because it pushes the market indexes up, that gives them pathetic gains!

In another world, all this would be looked on as tragic!!
