Life in Wonderland

The problem with these guys like Mr. Jagdish is, they had settled out of India long time back when we used to have only bullock carts. Now when they come for vacation, land in those cozy airports, travel in those luxy cars and stay in those five star hotels. And they fly back. What more India has tranformed. They should come back move out a 100 km away from those cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore etc. Then they can see the actual transformation. I think Rediff should ignore these kind of fairy tales and focus on what matters to common man in India. Mr. Jagadish and co has found their fortunes in US and once in a while suddently feel nostalgic of India.

Great transformation for India.. yeah right
by raj on Dec 05, 2010 12:39 AM

I spologize if I'm harsh or disrespectful but have to say the reality because media and many elites have decided that we are a super power alrready.

My Father - pre transfromed Infia - he was able to leave a decent life with modest luxuries, educate 2 kids, pay off the flat loan , helo with the weddinf expenses and retire with modest pension and benefits.

Overall a good and fun life

Year 2010 , after this great "trickle down free market globalization transformation" -- Son earning in one month more than what father earned in one year. and...
cannot buy a flat in metro educate my kids save for their marriage save for their college have fun

because of inflation

yes... Great tranformation. The way we are transforming..top 20% will become billionaires and remaining 80% will be living like we lived during Harappa dynasty.. Great transformation indeed

Lakshya Vision
Airtel Subscribers- Beware !!!
by Lakshya Vision on Dec 04, 2010 03:57 PM

They charge even for Customer Care Phone Calls.
Sheapishly , steal your money from your account by sending junk SMSs
Flood your cellphone account with all filthy SMSs.
There are many hidden charges in every services.
There is no hearing of your pain in the corridors of Airtel house.
Airtel is cheating subscribers unabashedly and unabatedly with no watchdog on it.
Many subscribers wonder if they can reach to their customer care no by any means to lodge their pilling complaints against services provided by them.
By all standards, Airtel is a looter. Believe only in BSNL. Govt. services is being maliciously tarnished to derive benefit by private telecom operators.

Liberal democracy of scamsters
by Pele Lele on Dec 04, 2010 09:52 AM

While Mr. Jagdish is talking about India's liberal democracy what he has to say about biggest scams like G2 Spectrum and CWG. Are these the fruits of liberal democracy, which will never be forgotten for lext 25 years.

Nonsense
by Prasenjit Sen on Dec 04, 2010 09:14 AM

Someone who can dismiss farmers suicides as `often as unrelated death' should stop lecturing us on how to deal with the problem of poverty. How can we be sure that he does not have ulterior motives in arguing for more radical free market reforms?

India and Reforms
by kamalendra singh on Dec 04, 2010 06:42 AM  | Hide replies

Bhagwati, ran away to the USA to live in luxury. From his Ivory Tower he is lecturing India. Science and reforms are needed no doubt. But what are the Labour Laws reform that the Scientists want?? Already the Labour law is biased in favour of the management. A genuine injustice takes a lifetime to redress. By then the poor out of job man will either die or get sick and be unable to pursue his case. Starve them into submission, has been the aim of the Labor Laws that the British left behind for us to follow. For them the poor were only a statistic, For India the poor are voters, who are fast learning how to topple the the exploiter politician nexus.

I fully agree. The so called economic growth is real growth to capitalists. Big are becoming bigger, and leaving no chance for others (>99%) of the population to become entrepreneurs. Commons are just supposed to spend money for education, which just fits the job system, and then wait for the mercy of these handful of businessman for employment and for their daily bread.

reservations and sectarian politics, in india today, provide jobs in india only to incompetant casteists and minorities; the competant nationalist products are driven out for global job-seek or start their own ventures, incidentally opening out new areas of development and entirely new avenues of professional services based on merit.

man proposes but god disposes, it is said. the evil polits in india today want to destroy india as a nation; but, in that process, they end up creating a new globalized india which is guiding the whole world to real knowledge with prosperity.

india today is surviving only bec of some nris abroad, still having some regard for mother india, nationalist having been hounded out by casteist hindus, jihadi moslems and conversionist churches, reducing india to an empire ruled by an catholic italian family, advised by one ahmed patel representing moghal memories. leavre it to god protect india and save its eternal values globally.
