Avoid Air travel unless its a dire need

If this goes through, it does not make sense to take Air Travel. We need to avoid it unless its a dire need. This is just a big loot.

We will travel by railway, which will ultimately shake off all airlines lofty ideas of fares.

airfares
by biswanath roy on Dec 02, 2010 08:08 PM  | Hide replies

it is high time that the railways goes for high speed trains(HSR) that would be connect the 6 metro cities of india with each other. if the HSR's can reach mumbai to delhi in say 6 hrs, or delhi-kolkata in 7 hrs, the air traffic would drop considerably.the private airlines are in league with the civil aviation minister & are bent on increasing the fares to exorbitant levels looking to the country's citizens helplesness.our PM is so weak that he just does not have any control over his ministers as seen in the 2G case.

I think this right to have hight speed train lines to major cities. From there on, people can use connecting trains.
Routes should be
1) Delhi-Mumbai
2)Mumabi-goa-mangalore-cochin-trivandrum(konkan)
3)Delhi-chennai-bangalore
4)Delhi-Calcutta
5)Mumbai -Bangalore-Chennai
6)Delhi-Patna
7)Delhi-bhopal

Seeing the route list, which will be increasing in huge manner in due course, I think seperate stations should be build.

Fares..
by Nadir Sheikh on Dec 02, 2010 08:08 PM

About fares. This is a question which is asked by a majority of middle class ppl and below.
Normally, fares in India are divided in 3 categories, Adults, Children (2 ), Infant (0-2). First of all, why is Children fare same as Adult fare ? Its useless to have this division if there is no difference in fare. Upper class will never complain as they can afford all rates, but for a small middle class family, to go for a short air trip, he has to think many times as he could not afford to pay as he is basically paying for 3 Adults (himself, wife, kid of 2-5 years) !
My point is to help children fly more in India. I have a suggestion and request regarding this : Is it possible to remove infant category and increase age group in Children category to 0-5 years (like in Railways), and fares for this category should be 50% of Adult fares or even less if possible.
This move will encourage many families to fly their children with them and it will be a big boost for the kids.
Childrens are future of India, God's gift. Where pure innocence and unconditional love still exists. Surely, they deserve better.
I hope my request reaches all the specified people who are responsible for fares decisions in India.

there's a good reason for this....airlines don't care about age, they'r concerned with seats. infants are accomodated in the parents lap, or the carriage on first seat. they don't take up an extra seat. its the seat that costs money, coz any concessional seat will result in low profit margins. now if you go into 'why airlines should profit of childrens' seats', then thats a whole different debate.....

High-speed trains are an urgent need!
by Rivka Mishra on Dec 02, 2010 08:05 PM  | Hide replies

The fastest way of getting from central London to the centre of Paris today is to take the train. You avoid the traffic, and you don't need to be at the station ages before the train leaves.

A high-speed train network is what India needs. Trains which travel at an average speed of 300 km/hr have been running in many countries. Fast trains can compete with airlines, and moreover train travel is environment-friendly.

The accident rate of the Japanese shinkansen, as well as that of the French TGV is far, far lower than that of Indian trains.
