Why does the GOI need to interfere with commercial aviation pricing? Yes, they can have a say in cargo pricing as that will affect daily lives - and even there according to market limits. For commercial passenger aviation let the market decide - demand will automatically balance out the supply. If the darn airlines think they can survive by charging Rs. 1 lakh for every seat then let them do so... those who would prefer that can avail that and those who don't will invariably find other modes. This can't be bad for the country - it will give rise to greater innovation and in the end better for all. But GOI entering fixing prices here would be nothing but absolutely moronic.

Air travel is not just luxury but sometime is necessary also so GOI has to regulate pricing however that should be flexible allowing luxury planes to charge as much as they want.

there are alternatives like the railways ... so there is no need to regulate beyond ensuring fair competition

I am from industry and I can tell 90% organsied industries Are cartels.Stop fo0ling yourself.
Laissez Faire. Let the markets determine the prices. plz plz lets not make an issue of this. Praful Patel is making the wrong noises. Airlines have suffered -- has the Govt subsidised it ? The travellers are suffering -- for sure. But it's temporary. The market will find it's own sanity; time will assist, as will alternatives.
Almost half a lakh for flying 1500-2000 kms, with the mostly $hitty service and erratic schedules!!! I'd better travel by the Didi vehicle....I mean railways....

The railway ministry should use this as an opportunity to introduce more trains and slash down the fares to attract more passengers. Something of similar nature was done by Lalu when he slashed the Rajdhani fares, which in fact got a significant regular flyers riding Rajdhani and other super fast trains for shuttling between the metros. This worked like a domino effect with the airlines in turn introducing the early bird booking schemes, with fares as low as 5000. If the domestic aviation behaves in such an impractical, headstrong and outrageous manner, the only answer is improving the most popular and most important means of transportation in our country, which is a railway. We are neither a plane nation or a car nation unlike the 1st world countries. We are a train nation.

why shd the rail ministry reduce fares and go into a loss? why shd tax payers subsidize railways forever?

Reducing fares means increasing commuters. If 10 people ride the train paying 500 each, it's obvious that 30 people will ride if it's slashed down to 200-250 and the net profit goes up. This increases the commuter load no doubt, but the net profit can be utilized to increase the service accordingly...

First check any long distance train you will find all seats are full at-least for next two months ... Not by real passengers but by agents
it seems the airlines do not want to serve the public-what business they will get if they are allowed to implement them? do they want to serve only those who go on official trips? It is time for railways to lay bullet train lines

At the proposed fares all airlines will have to park their planes in hangers and Govt should give immediate contract of builing hangers to Kalmadi nd Co.at Rs 1000000000 (one hundred crores) per hanger.
