Welcome
Wrong time to play populist
by Welcome on Aug 10, 2010 04:04 AM

Mr. Senator,

This is not the time to use populist card. Even though you sound like a protectionist you are not. This is not the time to go back on the promises and don't breach the trust. You are messing up the relationship. The 25 percent float exempt policy for PSUs is the direct retaliation. You are well informed to know the value of H1B in US economy as well as the tiny portion of the H1B in half a million legal immigration per year in the US. If needed please go to the USCIS site and read the survey report to improve immigration system.

67.3 percent of your revenues ( which are billions of US dollars) come from the USA and you only have 1300 US citizens and permanent residents (non US citizens) working for Infosys. Shame on Infosys! No wonder the American Senate is very upset.

innovation is not a requirement..
Overall more people in India innovate than the people in usa.
But what matters is honesty. People in Infy may not have been honest thats why the label chopshop. Example..false resume, bogus billing, over estimation, under reporting, inferior quality with tall claims, vanity, bad mgmt, lip service software engg. practices...so on..

by Sameer Bhagwat on Aug 10, 2010 02:58 AM  | Hide replies

Infy is a world class organizantion. US educated nationals are queing up to join on campus recuritment drives.

They are a Services company and provide service at a Fee , what is so derogatory about that?

If Infy is a sweat shop or chop shop, then whole of China is one too. Why won't he open his mouth against China?

Infy follows the rule for visas. If the consulate wants to reject the visa they can. The employee and employer agree on a wage and Infy provides its clients with service. There is nothing chop shop about it.

If they don't need this service, do they have the guts to ban H1B visa? NO

How does increasing the fees make Infy any less a Chop Shop ? Hypocrites.

china does not depend on usa. usa depends on china.
But infy depends on usa.
Amru had their visa rules flexible to help its own corporates. And infy made full use of that flexibility. Thats not illegal fine. But not dignified either.

Its ridiculous to see when heads of state visit Infosys campus in Bangalore before meeting our PM (Example is David Cameron's visit to Infy campus). Dont know what they achieve? Its so funny to watch Narayan Murthy welcoming dignitaries.:)

Ignore him, he is a PakistaniPig who always bawls like this without knowing what he is talking off. A jealous and disgraced Paki, he does not even know the simple fact that Pak has no cos worth comparing to American ones, much less than the Indian ones.

It is famous for terror companies like LeT, JeM, Taliban, etc.

Why not use Accenture, Bearing Point as an Example Mr Senator?
by Sanjay Reddy on Aug 10, 2010 12:28 AM  | Hide replies

On the same token US companies such as Accenture, Deloitte, Ernst and Young, Bearing Point, etc all do the same services that Infy does. Infy does for lesser price and same quality. Why not even one Senator or President Use similar US companies that have set up there offices in India, China, Brazil? They may loose the funding that they provide for there campaigns. Bunch of jokers these guys did not say a word when Enron screwed up!! No other country politicians around the world complain when Nike, Ford or Pepsi sets up there stores to compete with local providers. Just need a reason for loosing the jobs instead of upgrading the resource skills.

They hire a lot of Americans so getting a few temp workers is not a big problem for US. For that matter Intel, Motorola, Microsoft, .. all do this. That is why US has temp H1 and L visas.

Infosys and others are using it for 'body shopping' and trying to skirt the intent of this visa. They should try and avoid breaking the spirit of the law to have have bodies in the US.

I agree that they are doing body shipping more than Intel and Microsoft. Comparison of Microsoft, Intel, Motorala with Infy is comparing apples to oranges. Infy is partner of Microsoft not competitor. MSFT, MOT, INTC line of business involves innovation and Infy line of business is services and repeatable work.
No senator complains when Nike is going to China and getting there shoes done for $8 and sell for $70 in US or India. It is up to the consumers to decide on the quality and go with it!!! Same fashion it is up to the clients using the resources of INFY, TCS, etc to decide if they are getting quality resources for the price they are paying.
I bet if these Senators have business they would use offshore services in some fashion.

Using offshore services is not a problem. In fact any business not using one is really slow to catch up.

problem is misuse of H1 and L visa. They are meant to be temp visa for intl companies to get their business done. It is not meant for getting cheap workers and paying them Indian wages plus sum stipend at US locations. If Infy had a significant number of employees in the US and got a few temp workers, no one would have a problem with it. They are misusing the spirit of these visas.

Senators often complain about Nike using cheap labor but it is right as long as the workers are treated humanely and paid prevailing wages in the country the goods are made.

Making something as $8 is not the only cost for the company. They have to pay for shipping, store rent, sales people, marketing, promotions, inventory, ... they all add up. I have no idea what is Nike's margin but if you feel you can sell it cheaper then why don't you start one, it may be a great biz for you.

Rekha,

How does it matter to the Senator what Infy pays its employees? The employee agreed to come to the US at a certain salary and the company pays him that.

By your logic, what has this or any other Senator done to the millions ( 20 million) illegals in this country? nothing. Then why crib about visa misuse? If its a tmep visa them Infy has every right to get them here on that visa if the consulate approves. How doe sit matter if Infy pays 2000 or 4000 as a fee? Isn't that ironic

I agree the misuse of H1 and L1. Why are consultants accepting that? Because it is monetarily lot better than just working in India.
On the same token if INFY is making so much money with the misuse of visa rules with the projects why don't you get into the service business and see how hard it is get one project from the companies and do it the right way. There is competition in Shoe business there is competition in Service business.
CNBC special showed how the Nike workers complained that they hardly get $2 and there working conditions are pathetic.
But I do agree to your point of misusing!! My only concern is why these senators point out to non-us companies only. Even Accenture is doing the same at all the Health Care projects!! Keeping resources from India for over 2 years with Indian salary plus $2000 stipend!! They don't use these companies’ names because it is an American company!!
