There is nothing noble in this profession. What is the noble thing IITians hv done to our society? they take their education in India and work elsewhere.
I appreciate the concern you have raised-but honestly just think for a minute-is investing in Technical research just about increasing the pay of these demanding teachers, who anyway seek consulting opportunities and make a lot of money over and above the pay that the govt. has fixed for them. A typical faculty member isn't just entitled to the the salary that he/she receives from the govt., but also to so many other perks including a good home in the campus with 24 hour electricity and water supply, a flexibility to move beyond just teaching in the campus and seek consultancy opportunities(wherein they can actually make a fairly good amount). Honestly, is the issue actually about providing the IITs(and even the IIMs) greater autonomy and investing in the R&D activities or is it merely about giving in to the demands by the faculty for a better pay?.Think about it

It is very easy the see HRD minister as the villain in this entire episode as against the IIT faculty who are seen as nothing short of godly figures. But I urge everyone to understand what the real issue is and analyze it with a more open mind

IITs are not good as Faculty is good !!
But they are good as the INPUT (students) they receive is BEST.
Do some thing for their betterment. Provide them better amenities in campus, rather then providing huge pay from Govt. and lump sum amount from consultancy, and enormous flexible money from govt. funded projects.

Double standards!!!!! When it is possible to raise the perks and privileges of the MPs - most of whom are left thum impression or semi literate and criminals and thugs as also the IAS bureaucrats with their half baked knowledge about everything under the Sun and whose goal and ideal is not public service but how to make money by corrupt practices and prostrate themselves before the MPs, MLAs and ministers and whose concept of nation building is to throw a spanner in the works of all developmental activities then why not the IIT faculty who are academically highly qualified, brilliant, motivated and have taught and mentored lakhs of young Indians who are the prize catch of companies abroad and also in INDIA? The government must study the way the faculty in USA, Great Britain and other European universities are paid and then implement merit based, work based, research output based criteria for the pay to the highly qualified and competent faculty in the IITs which are the temples of learning and higher education in INDIA. The HRD minister should refrain from giving lame duck excuses. He should apply his mind to carefully study why the faculty are asking higher salaries instead of making grandiose statements like "No US-style salaries for IIT faculty. S. Ravindran
Our leadership will react, when a Jetairways situation reaches, like few weeks back strike by the pilots. The chairman, instead of speaking to pilots, he was wandering around corridors of cnetral govt. The same will happen here also. It is the we understand, discuss and resolve the isuues keeping EGO away is the only way to resolve.
Its sad that the Mr. Sibbal is not giving proper attention to the IIT faculty. And why there should be three years at entry level then I don't think good aspirants for teaching will go for it. Even any private organization dont have such rule of three years. Their pay hike is completely justified as they are the ones who train such good quality IITians. Also the efforts they put in curriculum, methodology of teaching, research is 100 times better than any other institutes in India. As govt has given permission for new IITs hence they are finding difficult to have balance between economy and funding.
IT IS NOT UNDERSTOOD THAT GOVT CAN ALLOW PAY HIKE INCLUDING PENSION TO GOVT SECTOR BUT NOT TO OTHERS. RBI THE FINANCIAL MANAGER OF COUNTRY FINANCE IS NOT INDEPENT FOR PAY OR PENSION TO ITS EMPLOYEES IIT.ARE WE OR GOVT FOLLOWING THE PRICIPLES ENSURED IN CONSITUTION OF INDIA,EQUALITY TO ALL
