We need 500 cities
by Raja Srinivasan on Nov 26, 2009 06:21 AM  | Hide replies

Why "500 cities"? Why not all the 6,00,000 villages to be transformed into technologically adequate, socially supportive, and culturally dynamic "habitation cites" without the host(s) of inherent negatives associated with the cities of today. Urban planners today need not just to think of increasing the space and facilities of new age living but to concentrate effectively in enhancing the social structure in a manner preserving /protecting the safety, health and security of every citizen. We all know what the "cities" offer and how they are shaping and expanding beyond the limits of development. New development affords excellent opportunities to bring in new ideas for harmonious actualization. The challenge lies here and not just adding facilities which may be akin to the assembly line manufacturing methods of yesterday.

Mr Prahald is a thinker and a visionary no doubts on that, but th ground realities are way different in India. What we really need is the ability of the younger lot to make things happen and make it happen. If corporate & social governance regulations and climate change efforts be the basic drivers, then india can make significant progress in empowering its rural landscape with alacrity. Afforestation and Green cover increase, Water conseravtion efforts and related developments integrating with broader development initiatives - Not just hapahazard development, will certainly lead the way forward. Its true that India is and always be a very tricky country with its vast and myriad political and other negatives, But Change can happen and will happen, how about us all doing our bit ? Why not for a change we begun to WORK ON ACTIONABLE PLANS and be consistent in our efforts ? If anyone in this group is serious to make such an impact then email me at MOKHSA72@GMAIL.COM and I shall share the details of the various projects that are under way and which shall make Change happen.

Here's the point. The 4 cities can not be proper only when rest of the countries is in the abyss and all migrate here.
All the cities with names as 'Pur / Nagar' (Kanpur, Rampur, Mujaffarpur, Ramnagar etc etc) must be converted into real cities.

another gr8 idea from Dev:-0

mumbai is a transit for many ppl travelling from West to East (ya Dubai is a so there and some flights go to singapore direct)
what i am saying is if you transit once in most cities, then you have seen it all and next time you just want some place to laze and chill out.
so the idea is to make Goa a transit point with international airlines flying west and east from Goa !
on the east coast also some place can be used like Puducherry or bhubaneswar.but Chennai is not a congested city yet so at moment it should do.
cmon indian govt. , make the big changes...

UR right but the things is... the factor that will effect the transit point to the traffic... most people visit mumbai.. hence its the transit point...the once change will come is by impartial govt policies.
Govt can make new cities and create and attract traffic hence transit points....thsi is the time thsi debate shld happen n layout plans.. befre its too late

it will reduce congestion in mumbai airport too. I reckon 70% of transit traffic should be routed to goa. mumbai is such a headache for transit

New cities should ne build
by akbar Mohammed on Nov 22, 2009 07:24 AM

Mr Prahlad is absolutely right
Existing cities cant cope up with the current growth, we need to build new shaghai, honkhong from scratch by looking into future i,e underground trains faster transport, good drainage facility proper housing estates
This is the only way forward
Thanks

All further sprawling dvlpment of Mumbai,Delhi and Kolkota should be stopped NOW!!!
these cities are already bulging..they are full!!!

govt. needs to somehow block further development on fringes and reroute to smaller towns.

Regularised Agriculture Marketing.
by VISHWANATHA on Nov 21, 2009 12:42 PM  | Hide replies

India's 70% of population still depends on Agriculture. The Govt Should Provide proper Agriculture Marketing. The Agriculture Produce should get meaningfull return to the farmers who produced the same.
Where as Our Agriculture Marketing is Zero percent Vaible to farmers. it is run by Middlemen or Commission Agents.

Union Or State Govt. Should give adequate facility and important to agriculture produce in general and for Food product in particular.

So no need to build 500 Cities. We need good 500 Agricultural Marketing strategist to Plan and implement it to Reach the real benifits to the Genuine Growers.

Now Agriculture produce is not profitable, peoples are migrating to Cities.

This will definatley stop Migration to Cities.

by tls mani on Nov 14, 2009 03:06 PM  | Hide replies

We cannot generate 550 cities but we can 550 political parties and 55,000 additional corrupt politicians fighting to build 550 cities and siphon of the money. Look at our
infrastructure after 60 years. it is still
running due to the british legacy.
