a vasat country. 75% population in rural area.i am agree indian citie are sufferring due to population explosion. major cities like mumbai, delhi are not worth living.lucknow is going abov 25 lakh.infrostructure is inadeqate.slums undevelopped colonies are growing.alright but why villager are running toward cities.we can provide all facilities there.development of village is development of india. we have many plans. it need implimentation honestly. secndlymany town areas needs proper planned development. in kaushambi dstt u.p. town area like Saraiakil needs planning. kalloo prasad dwivedi lko.

500 cities?...

Sure..

In fact, India will be divided into 500 countries soon..thanks to our great politicians who run vandalizm groups like MNS/ShivSena/SriRamSene etc...

They will give birth to separate countries, not cities..and the birth will not be by BUILDING, but by BREAKING the country in the name of religion, language etc...

stupid idea
by abboral boral on Nov 07, 2009 06:10 PM

This is worst idea by management guru .We need 50000 thousands developed villages with all the facilities .Development of 600 cities means all urban people only stay where as actual villagers will remain poor .We need rural India development not city development because demand will be created in village development only

C K Prahlad

He is one of my management Gurus and his books should be read from first page to last sincerely.

I can blindly believe him, whatever he says.

As for cities, most of them should come up in North India. It is in North that old cities have lost relevance and new cities are not coming up. As a result, rest of India is looking down on NIs, including MP CM.

First let every citizen learn to pay taxes. When one compares fecilities provided by advanced country , he forgets that even an outsider going there as student & working part time has to pay taxes where as here , only 15% of the population pays taxes & on the top of it revenue received by Govt is mismanaged.

Prahalad view is correct. but he should give the vision. the present citi's to be zeroed. and the out skirts should be townshipped with a vision of next 100 years. case study - Chennai city developed by Britisher's for 200000 population. today is 10000000. the amenities were created for 2 lac population, but ten million people sharing the amenities created for 2 lac people. Roads what ever you widen will not work, water reservoirs you cannot create, no space, sewage & drianage not at all to the living standards, Electricity - many accidents every day in domesic usage, Law & Order problem, no housing for many people, now transporatation, no space to walk on road side, foot paths encroached by authorities, Development authorities rather creating amenities it became money eating service. Chennai corporation contractors do the work, and calling tenders, only on paper to syphon funds. One family loot the total state, no questions are attended, arragont governance, for settlements 50 independent bunglows are their to carry transaction & lock premises owned by one family members. Common man cannot afford even small flat. So prahlada please put in strong words.

Take the bull by the horns!

Our problems seem to keep our youth at the starting blocks! No idea, how to tackle them! But problems are really opportunities thrown at them! But we need nerves of steel to achieve. We have whingners especially when someone achieves, the urge is to find holes to bring him down! It can be by any permutations or combinations! Yes, we have already arrived! Which country does not have problems?

US has a black President. How many had heard of Obama before he came from the blue over a year ago? He had self-belief, worked & achieved! Some still try to belittle him but he is busy putting out the fires, not of his making! He does not have a command economy like China & US is indebted trillions domestically & externally. It takes time!

We are alright, baby! Our base is low, so can grow! The problem is youth are cynical - things are bad, going to be worse etc! We want a cannon fodder to vent our frustrations, be it politicians, Sachin etc!

Future is on us, a green one, wow! That will change the face of the world, like the computers! We can tap sunlight & stay where we want! From moisture we can get water. An hour of sunlight can give a year's need of energy! That will spread wealth around as poorest of countries benefit more from Sun God! Why stay in cities when we can spread around & stretch our legs?

Yes, our future is now! We all have a role to play but the youth more so! Get out of the comfort zones & carpe diem, seize the day! Yes, keep smiling like Obama!!

City would inspire masses to grow, like mumbai is doing.
by manoj kumar on Nov 07, 2009 07:09 AM  | Hide replies

Yes, India need to learn from neighbour china who is inviting multinationals to plan their city, develop infrstructure. Very clever move. In india we leave it on govt who doesn't even know what is city planning. It will be very hard to creat jobs and income for growing population unless we wake up and get in action. City would provide ideal space for indians to grow. Otherwise china would make us slave. since they are earning money like crazy. This is time of economic war. We waste time only discussion, blaming, right/wrong etc. India need action oriented talk like Mr. Prahalad. everything ele is waste of time.

we don't need new cities! just develop the tier II and III towns.

There is lot of talent in small towns of India. It just needs to be nurtured in its own environment.

this run to the major cities by the young talented people only creates future burn-outs!

You are right. " India Lives in her Villages" Improve facilities and employment opurtunities there and people will automatically not leave villages.

His vision
by PHAM on Nov 07, 2009 06:22 AM  | Hide replies

is supposed to be implemented 50 years ago. With double deficits(trade deficit and budget deficit),where is the money for 500 cities? Even if the money is available,it would take 40 years for India to finish,by then the population would hit 1.7 billion (500 million more is added to today's population). Mission Impossible!

my dear friend in the age of plastic money, it has now just become the no's in once account and nothing more. it is only the material and the energy which make or destroy the world, if you know proper utilization of both you can create heaven, and if not it will become hell of garbage dumps, pollution, energy deficit so and so on.
only we need to put effort to make our place like heaven and no time is late rather today is the best time to start your effort. even if you may not enjoy fully the fruits of your efforts, but when you will take a bid from this world you'll certainly full of satisfaction of leaving the things better for your hairs than you recieved it from your ancestors. if you reap some plants you children will thank you when they will get its fruits.
