Migration of poor towns is not because of facilities, which is equally bad in newer cities. It is because of opportunities that people are migrating.

Dont trust the old bandicoots....they will not hesitate to eat u up.
I agree, its about time that we start thinking about moving forward, putting permanent solutions in place than just applying brake fixes. Who says that we need to upgrade the infrastructure of an ageing city so that it can acommodate million more people. Why not develop a burb with better infrastructure that can accomodate these million folks. I think we are on the right track,NAVI Mumbai and GURGAON are example of this kind of progressive thinking , but we need many more Gurgaons and VASHIs.
Also please do not misintrepet as if i am suggesting to stop development/infrastructure upgrade in our existing cities. God knows that we need it desperately but unless we can stop these existing cities like Mumbai,Bangalore growing at cancerous rate, there is not much hope. People need to have more options then Mumbai,Bangalore ,Hyderbad and probably couple more.
What India need immediately is a dictator. I hope the Indian millitary folks are watching the corrupt politicians in action. A millitary coup should happen as soon as possible. Then bring one child policy and any one violating it should be hanged publicly. NRI's should be banned returning to India. Any one above the age of 70 should be killed too.

Yes we agree with your point. What Mr CK wants to drive home is as of now there is concentration of population also concentration of corruption, blackmoney, as and when you scatter all these into 500 more cities automatically these evils also will be distributed.Good Idea
Not 500 cities but 500000 good people (may be more) capable of influencing the rest. Anna Hazares, Manmohan Singhs, Murtys, Nilekanis, JPs, or just any one who has a bit more of human side to him/her than the rest.

anyone above age of 70 gimme a break why not start by closing the account of your father first, u moronu dont even know what ur blabbering about, NRIS should be banned all this jhobgrowth in India and investments are made by NRIS if you were to depend soley on Govt expenditure all you'd get is kendriya vidyalaya, either ur having a complex of not being able to see the world or you're not an objective thinker growup u dehaati
Instead, if we improve the villages - where it is infinitely easier and cheaper to do things - we can first prevent the migration of millions towards our choked cities in the first place.
The stress on the cities will vanish automatically.

Fail to understand. What is there to improve of the villages that every one talking about ? Is it just the management of the villages or making them into some gaudy monstrosities where people throng to make big buck effortlessly.
None of us Indians have it. Everywhere even today we see people spitting on the roads, driving as if the world is going to end today no courtesy towards their fellow citizens, line jumping , lane jumping. Given a choice people will pay bribes to get things done even if the corresponding government office employee refuses to take bribes, we will go to the other channel to get the work done no accountability by either citizens or governments and even private sector you can build a million cities. People will continue to live in the past and still fight over who is better, wether north is better or south is better. The problem is too much centralization and we expect our government to do everything for us but would not hesitate to cheat the government of legitimate taxes
Urbanization, modernization, development all that is fine. But we should not forget that a nation cannot survive without food. And food is cultivated in villages. Cities cannot survive on it's own. The people from villages are migrating to cities because they are starving. Government should help the farmers and people in villages. Farming is not as economically beneficial to the individual as professions in the cities. Still farmers are backbones of the nation. That's why developed nations subsidize farmers. What we need is not 500 cities, we need 500 co-operative programs like AMUL in Gujarat, 100 programs like the milk revolution, so that quality of life increases in villages. These management Gurus and economists are just parrots repeating what their white Gurus are teaching them.

Yes government should do everything. Why not ask the government to clean up after us? People either live government bharose or Ram Bharose not their own Bharose. They will blame everybody else but not go out and vote when it is required to vote. Will live in filth and will expect Australian cricketers or India Cricketers to clean it for them. Arundhathi Roys et al fight for peoples right to live in filth, even when government provides them affordable housing these so called victims will try to rent it out. we also treat others property as our own and deface it.
