1. Politicians are thinking deep about building cities. (Madhu Koda is at work) 2. Bureaucrats are working overtime to remove pot-holes, provide electricity and water. (Pot Holes are being filled with mud by municipality).
Sure, it will happen.
Before 500 cities we need 500 honest MPs, and a few thousand honest bureaucrats - rest will follow.

Actually atleast 500 honest citizens are required who will not pay bribes. You get the politicians you deserve, politicians are reflective of the society they live in and grow in. Our society itself treats bribery as a way of life. How can you expect these politicians to be any different

nobody pays bribe because they like to... people pay bribe because most often THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.

Biggest choice of bribery was ration cards. If you are not eligible you will pay bribe to get it. 50% may not pay Bribes by choice but 50% would like to ensure work gets done faster by paying bribes Its not all hunky dory as you think For eg a person who has to get drivers license but is failed in the test will happily pay a bribe to get a license even though its deemed he is not qualified. That is bribery by choice
In US if you go remote cities like Dayton, Columbus, Salt Lake City the infrastructure is great and every want to come out there instead of only staying in NY or SFO. In India too time for us to develop cities like Kanpur, Kota, Warangal, Hossur, Satara, etc. If we can develop those tier-3 cities then NO ONE CAN STOP INDIA.

First let them maintain the Tier I cities and then develop Tier II cities such as Mtsore, Madurai, etc. Then worry abt Tier III.

500 cities?...
Sure..
In fact, India will be divided into 500 countries soon..thanks to our great politicians who run vandalizm groups like MNS/ShivSena/SriRamSene etc...
They will give birth to separate countries, not cities..and the birth will not be by BUILDING, but by BREAKING the country in the name of religion, language etc...

good point anand...
but we also need to control rising population... 1) Start building skyscrapers... 2) Build more subways and trams... 3) Learn something from New Yorkers...
OK ppl dnt get started with new yorkers point now... coz i believe no one is interested in destroying all agricultural land and forest...
if necessary hire me to carry out all these plans (m unemployed)
Does Prof Prahlad know how many municipalities exist in India and since when? For his knowledge this figure will exceed his figure of 500. Does he know when Municipal act was enacted? The first one was formed in 18th Century!Municipal act as we know now was enacted in 1912. What are the powers and state of these municipal bodies? Even city corporations? What is net wealth vested in these bodies and how their finances are managed> If he does all this study and apply his management mind he will do a great service for India.India has had a infrastructure on these lines ahead of Us and Canada. In fact our stitutions were copied by the British elsewhere. The job of collector was created at the time of Akbar and so was the job of District Judge! We have every thing except there is no proper training of personnel/ no proper training of planning and raising resources etc. He can apply his mind to all this

Yes India was golde goose before Britishers came etc etc forgetting the point that there was no India prior to Britishers with each Navabs and Rajas and Badshahs at each others throats False jingoism and selective history is what is making us behave like Ostriches and instead of looking at the problem as it is today and providing a solution with future in mind we always dig into the past.

U are too caught up in selective history..He talks about future..Urbanizations is needed..With a billion people you cant depend on 6-12 big cities..Every region should have a set of cities to avoid population burden on cities like Delhi and Mumbai..As we move towards industrialization we need more cities to support manufacturing , services ..Now what is true is that everyone knows it..We are not behind in the world because we dont know waht but simply because we dont want to do it
