It is unfair to compare both education system
by SHANE on Nov 03, 2009 08:49 PM  | Hide replies

US education system develops students to be innovative, developed leadership and developed your interest in other extra curriculum activities which I think can help immensely to develop your innovation skills. In, India we study to pass the exam without developing innovative or leadership skill. Even our students become so studious that they lacking in any kind of physical activities which in turn hurts their physical strength too.

Totally agree. Other than bookish knowledge, folks are not ready to face the real world.

Our entire population is sickly and pathetic..It was not the case earlier. We were on top of hockey inspite of all poverty and slavery.
A sick body cannot support an agile and vibrant brain. It shows in our intectual acheivements. they are no more than consolations.

Our students academic excellence
by Narayanan Mahalingam on Nov 03, 2009 08:41 PM  | Hide replies

Our educated guns are qualified to fatten the MNCs. Our so called superiority in academics pales into insignificance when compared to the western world's output in academics or business. The female is entitled to have her share of superiority feeling. Aam aadmi knows where our insitutions stand. Otherwise, how come so many indians are migrating abroad for the foreign degree seal.

our average student might outperform their brilliant student, but our brilliant student cant think as critically as their average student. Critical thinking is NOT a part of Indian educational system. PERIOD.

correct .. infact we cant compare .. their education is more activity and research oriented .. discussions are a part and hence as a result their teen agers are confident and speak out .. compared to ours, even the students studying in the english medium cant communicate in english .. not that i am a supporter of english or something .. i am just talking bout education system .. also u see boys either too shy of speaking to girls in their early age and it stays that way far too long.. thats y they develop unwarranted misunderstadnings, disrespect and sometimes obsession .. this all has something to do with education system .. some one studying below a street light or using a candle is not a justifying defination of commitment towards education .. thats wat i feel ..

Isn't it ironic that the poor american student grows up to be rich and prolific in business and creates an environment that fosters creativity, freedom for the people that "outperform" his average projeny. Should we try to learn something from that poor average fellow, rather than bask in our self created glory ?

not necessary
by deepak kotnis on Nov 03, 2009 08:12 PM  | Hide replies

if we are doing something good .. we must stick to it .. there is no need to draw comparisons .. we are no way qualified to make a comment on any country which is so called 1st world .. we have a long way to go .. if our students really out perform usa students .. then let them complete their respective degrees and then stay here and make us proud .. apart from developing chandrayaan if they can make some contribution towards improving the situation of aggressive apathy towards civic sense in our biggest of cities, it would be helpful .. i think we must not provoke western world with statements like this .. as i said if the western people get mad and start filimg inside out .. our campaign of SHINING INDIA would soon be sold as a STINKING REALITY .. better accolades than slundog .. so please guys .. learn from america and all the country who manage to keep their streets clean and drive in lanes .. that will be more peaceful AND acheiving than producing a factory of iim's and iit's .. please ....

Its nice a woman is going to head a management school, but such comparisons are grossly unwarranted.

Am sure she recommends her students to study Marketing management by Philip Kotler and not books written by XYZ Jain/Gupta/Rao etc..?

we rewrite what is there in text books
we build our own intelligence after going abroad only
we have world famous universities where we can buy degrees and can get seats through recommendation and immoral reservations
Deserving poor people do not proper education

Then WHY THE HELL ARE WE COMPARING WITH THE US?

This lady is a joker. And most Indians are frogs in a well, completely without real exposure. We continue living our great Indian legacy and what do we have to show for it, in terms of progress and development?

Someone needs to throw an egg on her face.

we copy/paste code written by americans and boast that we are the IT gurus.

we absolutely do not have any research mentality, we assume that cost savings is the best strategy to create money or to speculate and inside trade

I wonder if Karuna Jain has ambitions of a political outing post her tenure. Because first thing that came to my mind reading the 'women are cautious and meticulous ..' thing made me think if she is making a pitch for women votes. :).

not only that, she goes on to say this:
"Our average student outperforms the brilliant American"

NO WAY.

Look at their labs
Look at their software
Look at their hobbyist mechanics
Look at their SME entrepreneurship

We are nowhere close to them in *performance*

Maybe will might equal them in some results IF given equal opportunities.

Maybe we might equal them if given slightly lesser opportunities.

But make no mistake, they work hard on things they like.

Not like us.

Our average kids dont even read a world famous book you give them as a gift for free.

They just ask - will it help my career?

So if she thinks lying about the situation encourages youngsters, well, she should try that, because lying is more effective in society, opposite to what it is in science.

But that is JUST NOT TRUE

Our urban kids are spoilt beyond repair.

Rural kids and younger kids give *tremendous* hope.

City kids are junk.

Total, comprehensive "career" suckers.

Only a few will make a big name.
The rest of them will think about food, gaming, street-smartness, mischief, money, girls and music.

Nothing long-term constructive like the Chinese, Japanese or American techie kids.

Has this lady did an objective comparison of students from USA, Europe and India before making such a statement? Indians are very good in bragging(that too very loud in that funny accent).

We got the most important thing from the West ie a proper framework and its not like that theyre bragging all the time about it.We still try comparing 18th century European ethics with our 20th century ethos. They've changed a lot too you know

Indians are shit-heads, swelled heads, in international programming contests sponsored by IBM-ACM conducted yearly, Indians have been able to win it even ONCE. It is always Americans, Europeans, and lately Chinese winning the programming contests.

This in a field in which so called India is a superpower !
