Abolish reservation for academically-poor students
by krishnan on Nov 04, 2009 12:13 AM

It does not matter if average indian is better than brilliant american. who cares? Indian society cannot prosper if students with *NO or poor* academic excellence is favored against good candidates in the form of reservation as a state policy.

It's true that 80-90% Americans are dumb, but the rest 10-20% makes the difference, I mean real difference. The real inventions..discoveries come from these 10% population.

If 80-90% americans are dumb - then by that scale 98-99% Indians and about 95-96 % of the rest of the human population is dumb.
If you want evidence of Indian's dumbness, take a look at the leaders they elect to offices. Competency is not a requirement to hold an ministerial berth in India - by law.

"Our primary and higher secondary education is far superior, our IQ level is very high too. Our average student outperforms the brilliant American,"

Hubris is the mother of all ills.I guess that's why India is down to such depths from her glorious pasts 1000 years back.

Missing the point

hey All ...
Everybody is talking about how students in India lack in innovation and are only good in facts and numbers. But we all forget that this is what is given to us.
I dont fully agree with this article but I dont agree with you all Indian Stundet bashes too. I agree that Indian education system does not teach us to the best in research but one thing is for sure and you can check it in all the schools in US or anywhere. Indian student still perform much better then other students in those education systems as well. It is the determination , hard work , and our superior IQ which makes us best not the Indian education system. Good students will be good whichever education system you put them in. At the moment in all world class university it is Indian students against others and we still beat them. It might have to do with our tradition of hard work, may be our food habits , may be our desire to do well wherever we are . If a student does well in IIT exam or IIM or any other exam then he will do well in other exams as well. So be confident of your roots ..and achieve greater heights..

by india voice on Nov 03, 2009 11:53 PM

Indian education is all about memorizing and becomeing engineer or doctor as if there is no other profession whereas in US its all about development and we can see young grduates stsrting new ventures and innovations whereas in india its alway about finding a job this doesn't mean indian education is not good but more emphasis shud be given on entrprneurship....so that we can create jobs...

This is what called as Ethnocentrism.

It is always good to believe in you and believe in your culture, that doesn't mean others are weaker. Everyone have this attitude nurtured right from the stage he/she was born.. it all starts with toy - Mine is always the best.

The interview deals with all kind of social problems a woman goes through.. other developed countries don't have this to the extent it is in asia.

Indian education is based on memorizing fact and numbers, that is why Indians never innovate It is such a biased and ignorant statement by someone who has never interarcted with an American student.
Is this the reason why the entire population on IIT come to USA to pursue higher education so they can compete with the poor American student.

Sounds to me like a case of sour grapes

Comparing the best of Indian students to average of US, speaks volumes about US education system, where the average can compete with India's best.

On the other hand India's best cannot compete with US best, as seen in terms of research coming out of Princeton, Harvard, MIT etc/

Hopefully, our education system improves so that India's best can compete and are compared with world's best, rather than world's average.

I would not even talk about average schools in India which have completely failed to equip students with tools to compete.

Well you missing a point, the bests of US (faculty or students) are from various nationalities who wud hv got thr basic education in different systems. No doubt US is known for his post grad/research education but then several other european countries have comparable robust research oriented education sys. But unfortunately the money is missing at other places n so a blind rush to US

Students of various nationalities - firstly - that population is still a minority in the US. Secondly, you want to question them as to why they chose to come to the US then. Thirdly, the prosperity enjoyed by the US is not a fluke. It happened because of the vision, hard work and ingenuity of the american leaders and citizens.

manager-decision maker
by Loknath Rao on Nov 03, 2009 09:03 PM

"a technology person with a management degree makes you a better decision maker, a better manager".. I think most fail to make a distinction here.. becoming a good manager is not same as becoming a good decision maker. It is at taking decisions where most people show their back. Its the guts thing and comes only by intuition and faith in oneself and sadly sarwaswati doesn't help here.

depends on what your definition of outperform is .. i personally feels indian students come to work for american companies because the pay is good and the work culture is different. unlike india where to climb the success ladder you have to suck up to your bosses no matter what an idiot he or she might be. there is no recognition for hard work or a work well done in indian work environments
