World's Top Financial Hubs
by surya das on Mar 07, 2009 02:46 PM

Mumbai ranked 49th among world's top financial hubs
London: The Indian city of Mumbai has retained its 49th place in the list of world's top 62 financial centres compiled by the independent entity Z/Yen Group.

Mumbai was ranked at the same position when the list was published in September last year.

The worsening financial situation notwithstanding, London and New York have cornered the first and second places respectively, in the league of 62 top financial centres.

The Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) is compiled by the London-based Z/Yen Group which is a "risk/reward" management firm.

"The GFCI provides ratings for 62 financial centres calculated by a 'factor assessment model'. This process combines instrumental factors (external indices) with financial centre assessments (from responses to an online questionnaire)," the company said in a statement.

Other cities in the top 10 are Singapore at the third spot, followed by Hong Kong, Zurich, Geneva, Chicago, Frankfurt, Boston and Dublin.

Mumbai is ahead of Chinese city Beijing which is placed at the 51st position. However, the Indian city is way behind the China's financial hub Shanghai, ranked at the 35th spot.

The classic American dream relied on making money by inventions. But that's long gone. What is left of the inventive Americanism transformed into stock markets , IT and defence. Pretty much every thing they consume is imported from outside. When the dollor crashes ( it's long due), the dream would evaporate forever. Countries like China are the biggest beneficiaries when it happens as their economy is largely based on production and not consumption and manipulation. It is a mathematical cetrainty ( It is not a question of IF but WHEN). What good will it do if you are in US and dollar = 10 rupees or 5.

Unless we shed the daily / hourly labor mentality for dollars and start producing for domestic consumption , we are doomed beyond repair. With the wretched and rotten political system prevailent in India today, even God won't help us unless we take action now.

But at present the reverse of it is happening. Everyday Rupee is devalued against the dollor.

Why not Yen and Yuan getting devalued with the rate of rupee while we have a healthy growth in the domestic sector ? It is because, Yuan and Yen are not tugged to Dollar where as Rupee is very tightly coupled with it. Devaluation of Rupee merely indicates devaluation of Dollar. When USD and INR weighed against the EURO, we will know what is happening. lol.

Obama the Best Administrator.

In the recent histroy obama is the best president the USA had his vision and aim of transforming USA making use of its own population instead of the immigrants will make america again to the lead.

USA should first make use of its White and Black population whose jobs and wealth where stolen by forign immigrants if that is not curtailed it wont have that upword growth.

To make it simple USA should De value the US$ against specifically against Euro,Chinese yuan, yen,Wong and finally against Rupees of India these things will make it imports worth less and forign immigrants falling automatically with out any restrictions.

Many indians here speak of USA as protectionism if so are they ready to go to USA if the value of US$1 = 1 Indian Rupees ?

if the above is done by USA half of all imgrants will run away from USA automatically.

India should Start War in South Asian Region
by anshu on Mar 07, 2009 02:40 PM  | Hide replies

The best thing India should do is to start war in South Asia Region and take over Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. This is the way we are going to get the economies of these nations and can save our own economy. Believe me this is the only way and we will have to go this way, else someone else will take India over.

Dude,

What your hare-brained plot will do will send thousands, if not millions of refugees into Indian territory. We would then join these failed countries and be forced to go around with a begging bowl in hand.

by ContraView on Mar 07, 2009 02:37 PM  | Hide replies

Obama is elected by Americans, not Indians. It is very much fair on his part to protect jobs of US citizens. What is wrong in it?

US is the place of extremely liberal and free market economy. If they are taking these protective steps, it must have been very difficult situation for their administration.

We should try and develop our domestic economy and not roam around begging for jobs.

will Americans do the job at their own ?????
by Suchita Bhagat on Mar 07, 2009 02:32 PM  | Hide replies

India's IT sector is seen as a source of national pride - an area where Indians see themselves as competing successfully on the global scene.
So now the question is will Americans do the job at their own of what our (or any foreigner) IT people done there?

Most of the jobs have vanished along with the businesses in this crisis. Lesser workforce may now be sufficient until new businesses are created !!!
