and what about kicking out all the Indians from USA? Obama is saving his "house" from burning, nothing wrong with that... unlike our politicians who will not hesitate to burn our own houses to save their pockets!

World's Top Financial Hubs
by surya das on Mar 07, 2009 01:17 PM  | Hide replies

Mumbai ranked 49th among world's top financial hubs
London: The Indian city of Mumbai has retained its 49th place in the list of world's top 62 financial centres compiled by the independent entity Z/Yen Group.

Mumbai was ranked at the same position when the list was published in September last year.

The worsening financial situation notwithstanding, London and New York have cornered the first and second places respectively, in the league of 62 top financial centres.

The Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI) is compiled by the London-based Z/Yen Group which is a "risk/reward" management firm.

"The GFCI provides ratings for 62 financial centres calculated by a 'factor assessment model'. This process combines instrumental factors (external indices) with financial centre assessments (from responses to an online questionnaire)," the company said in a statement.

Other cities in the top 10 are Singapore at the third spot, followed by Hong Kong, Zurich, Geneva, Chicago, Frankfurt, Boston and Dublin.

Mumbai is ahead of Chinese city Beijing which is placed at the 51st position. However, the Indian city is way behind the China's financial hub Shanghai, ranked at the 35th spot.

Only difference is that Mumbai has 90% of it's money in 2% hands and 30% living in slums unlike any other city in list. So there is nothing to be proud about Mumbai.

I think, its good, he has taken the best possiable decision for the US. let us turn the page. Atleast we can retain the intelligent Nurse in the country so that they can really add great value to the patients and the Nurses. due to our efficency the World will come to India for the treatment. So dont worry too much. All such decision will only help India to Grow.

by Faceless Indian on Mar 07, 2009 01:33 PM
U are right - the world will come to India for treatment becoz it is cheap. And for their dollars our doctors and hospitals will start ignoring Indians. Wait and watch - if you are dying and need immediate attention, the doctors will NOT admit you but go to a goraa who will pay them more in dollars to have his shoulder massaged. Indians will be the biggest loser in this commercialised medical environment. It is already happening in places like Apollo and other pvt hopsitals.

Such nurses are in excess in India and every one them cannot find a job and it will put pressure on domestic employment. Moreover, foriegn currency remittances will come down which will put pressure on our current account deficit. Actually Mr.Obama is hiring more Indians into his team and expect that these individuals will put resistance to such proposals. Hope they will put India interests first without hurting the American interests.

why not chillax for few months?
by Raktabh Srivastava on Mar 07, 2009 01:11 PM  | Hide replies

take a sabbatical and pursue ur hobbies for a while if u ve a wee bit of savings. this is the right time for it. when the market recovers, things will again be damn hectic!!! six months of shadow boxing might not help. ergo, try and enjoy simple pleasures of life if u r a bachelor and ve to fend off just for urself or enjoy with the family if circumstances permit. u ll not get a better time hereafter...

To save their asse*s the middle management is making people to slog more than 14 hrs. Its up to company to reduce the salary but cannot increase working hrs on its own. Its health & social hazard to employees.
Can such companies be sued?

No matter how hard any country tries, isolation won't work. Somewhere down the line, affect will be felt.
My suggestion is to direct more of our human capital to non-service sectors. By being diversified, you'll mitigate the effect of any downside.
