Nice effort :D Design nowdays is good amount of work done thanks to excellent manufacturing standards now. So that way you should appreciate these guys

I just saw something on bronze medal in Robo games by some BITSians .. Surprising to see BITSians excel on the Technical side .. normally they take more manageral roles..
Seems like days are gonna come to BITSians challeging the tech skills of IITians .. :) Good competition

Appreciate the work, good that people are doing things, but there is nothing new in the proposed designs.

Strange designs

I find it very strange that "mobile applications", "internet applications", "short films", etc. qualify as Industrial Design. Is it just me or has the term "design" gotten a new meaning of late ?

The terms 'industrial design' and 'industrial designer' are used to describe those specialist designers who worked on what became known as designing products. The design show in context is by students of INDUSTRIAL DESIGN CENTRE where there are 4 disciplines, namely, Product design, Visual Communication, Animation and Interaction Design. Design is a problem solving activity. Not a look-good or feel-good thing like advertising. And its not of late that design got a new meaning. It existed since the beginning.

IITians

It is interseting to do a survey to find out how many IITians are really working on technology. Most of them are in financial and banking field (not joking!) If they have an IIM MBA to back it up then surely they are not inventing but working as execs in major corporations.IIM guys have formed a 'mafia' of their own...so they recruit only IIM grads. That is another story.

This stupid research very funny IIT -
1)Designing anything is not big but u have to make it workin real life too dear IIT Wizh kids???
2)Dear Amrita Pokarna - Ur book in dark is impressive but can you tell people - How much it cost??? Howmany parents in this world will buy such book for there young kids at the price of one LCD TV????
3) And the funniest is innovation of MS.Sharbani Ghosh - "A memory aid device for geriatric Alzheimer's patients" - Dear the patients should first remember that what they are carrying in there pocket is memory aid device and how to operate it - otherwise they might want another guy everytime to tell - waht that device is and how it works - hahahahah!!!

1. designing anything is really not big. But designing to solve a problem is REALLY big.
2. How many parents in this world buy an LCD for children that will only tell them bedtime stories? I assume you will not want to tell stories and have an intimate relation with your children. you would rather buy and LCD for them that will do the job. And i also assume that when people can buy fisher price, i am sure they can afford something like this too.
3. hahahha to you too.its really FUNNY. because the aim was to solve the problem faced by such patients and their caretakers also. That's the problem focus on which the aid was built. to be such that it will assist the patient in any mode. whether he remembers or not. and such that he does not need another's help.
and
4. before criticizing, please be sure of every aspect. These projects may not be the perfect solution, but a lot of studies were done to come to this conclusion. Every student does intensive research for months. these are not off hand projects.

Indians 50 Years behind Eurpopeans/Americans
by MGR on Jun 16, 2009 07:06 PM  | Hide replies

Indians are 50 Years behind Eurpopeans / Americans in Technology. Virtually all Technological developments are taking place in Europe / America. We are just studying and copying their Technology. Indians Worry: We don't know how to develop Technolgy. Europeans / Americans Worry: How to hold the Technology with out leaking to India / China. India can not catch up their Technology in all future times. Indians have to survive with only their English skill.
