The junction
by Balaji Chandrasekaran on Jul 01, 2009 10:40 PM

The junction where the sea link ends and joins the existing road is the worst I have ever seen in modern construction. I believe there shud have been some sort of grade separator to relieve congestion at that point. Just inserting traffic into the existing road will create chaos which we can literally see. Poor planning

From d Pic it seems...THE bRIDGE ENDS AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL/TRAFFIC JUNCTION...THAT'S REALLY DUMB..AND ALL VEHICLES WOULD BE MOVING IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY...THEY HAD RATHER OUT A FORK AND MADE IT FOR LEFT AND RIGHT DOWNFLOW..

Maddy, I would not be surprised if they had not put even an exit. What a plan ...really...looks like they employed a carpenter to design this.

one basic throught
by Moderate Voice on Jul 01, 2009 10:30 PM  | Hide replies

Rate of production of cars is much much greater than rate of available driving space.

What bour having 4 more tracks of subarban rail, metro Greener Mumbai and no middle east oil pollution???

I am not proud of Nano... I would be prouder if there was NYC like metro grid and no one needed to own cars to go to work.

Also, what is the security situation like for this sea-link? What if a crazy Ajmal like fellow tries to blow up the bridge?

Why not name this bridge after Ombre(26/11) or Tilak or some local leader.

Poor Planning
by Jagdish Bhagchandani on Jul 01, 2009 10:26 PM  | Hide replies

It is strange that even in today's times when rapidity of increase in the volume of traffic on roads is beyond control, our planners thought of this link to be only 4-lane. What a pity! No newly planned road in today's time should even be thought of having less than 6-lanes. Utter lack of sense of planning and assessment. It won't take more than a couple of months when the inadequecy of road width is felt.

1. My dear, we are adding the population of one australia every year ! No amount of planning or resources would be sufficient to cater to the needs of such a population.
2. Since a large chunk of financial resources are being poured into the metros at the cost of the hinterland, unabated migration of population continues to the metros throwing everything out of gear.
3. Decongestion of Metros is the need of the hour and planners should direct their energies towards this seriously.

The other 4 lanes are no where in sight. Is it located somewhere else or it is yet to be started?

Why the divider is not a permanent one and a make shift barricade is used?

Good point....

The answer is because our administrators and designers are from reserved quota...

Did your see on the second slide that one of the reasons for the jam was the "curvature"???

Who architected that like this? I hope they had good implementational reasons.

Or could it be that they call a separate tender (contract) for building that divider ? Some more public money ?

On some highways in USA
by Loan Shark on Jul 01, 2009 10:25 PM

They build an extra lane in the center to be used for peak hour traffic

The direction of traffic is changed on that extra lane sometime during the middle of the day to allow extra lane for rush hour traffic

by Rahul Singh on Jul 01, 2009 10:23 PM

As if they have not seen such a marvel infrastructure, they are behaving worst than the villagers coming to the city first time by taking joy ride on the bridge there by creating choas.
