I don't think Oscar Jury's had any intention to give away any oscar to any Indian, but since the Movie was made by a Hollywood director and since they wanted to acknowledge their talent,they had to forcefully name some indians just to save their ass from the media and the world to avoid any criticism and being partial to the west. thats it. Indians please do not give much importance to Oscars, it is meant for the West only.

Oscar to rehman shows that hollywood had never come across good music and music there has no class, otherwise rehman would not have got oscar. the music is very ordinary, it is typical stereotype rehman music. rehman has given good music only to bombay and roja. it is shame for oscar to give to rehman. Oscar to Guljarji is very good as he is great poet with long versatile career. It is recognition of his outstanding work over the period. Jai ho Guljarji

Guys, once you live in US you would know that everything is not as fuzzy as it sounds. US and UK have the best and the most powerful forms of music in the world. In fact, Rehman has made it to this superstardom by brining in the Indian music through a fusion route. Lot of A R Rehman's compositions has a strong influence of leading western forms of music. It is his unique fusion style that make him a qunique brand in the world of music.

Friend i am agree with you that Rahman has given better music in past than in SDM.But it happened in oscar that people didn't get oscar when the most expected and got when they even least expected,but it doesn't mean that they were not deserving.Academy awards committee had to choose between the options they had and amongst them rahman was better.

I would say Rehman has given lots of music thats far too better than slumdog. But he deserves every bit of this award.

SDM hasn't got Rahman's great music. But he has given the best music to many movies. He is a genious. He deserves every bit of it.
Just because he is a Tamilian, don't try to condemn him.

ask these guys whether they listened lagaan rangeela kandukonden boys alai payuthe jodha akbar
lets make movies on american drug/sex/peadophile/serial killer issues and make a realisitic movie ( which is easy if filmed in US), show the indian masses on how their teen/college life endup and then probably try to send it for oscar or baskar award whatever u wnt to call it.will mira nair/deepa mehta or anyother ones take it up as a challenge?

Let me fist of all state that the music of Rahman and lyrics of Gulzar need not get recognition from OSCAR as we all know that they are greats since quite some time. What I am really disappointed is that a movie which is showcasing the slums in our country and calling the slumdwellers as dogs and having made by the hollywood team is being hailed as if we are great and our politicians are also standing in queue to congratulate the team. We have seen lots of movies in regional languages and Hindi and these can be any day better and they are more aesthitically made than the SDM. Lagan was far superior to SDM. Our Media is having nothing to report constructively and they are head over heals to waste time to exploit these socalled OSCAR awards. I feel this is quie cheap.

We are still slaves. Slaves to western propoganda. I wonder how long will we remain slaves. there is not one media company or journalist, that I remember, who saw through this game. In India there are people aplenty who would sell their all to get accolades from the west. I wonder when we would be free.

you mean to tell me that whatever is shown in SM, the slums, the beggars, the parasites who prey on children, the s hit, the criminals, the selling of girls, the killings and murders, the stamina of a person to keep living in these conditions, the resolve of ppl etc etc are all untrue? or that u dont like it so it does not exist?

what do you mean showcase??! The country is ONE BIG SLUM!!!! One trip outside of it will make you see what is so obvious to people who have traveled all but once outside of India. and they are dogs to accept that way of life however hard it sounds. That is no way to live, but consecutive govts and prevalent culture has ensured that we will not come out of slum culture for a while to come.

middle finger what u think SDM gives u a great message? Its just a hype ,SDM is an ordinary film We Indians have produced many great films like Lagan,Tare jamin Par ,etc .Rehman and Gulzar did great job before also

read the seletion criteria of the oscars! then you will know why lagaa and the rest didn't get it! SDM is proof that the world is finally accepting indian music instead of threatening and frightening! only educated ppl understadn that this is a movie....if ppl are to believe u, then in the world, america has a superhero dressed as a bat! there is a man who is actually aging backwards! there is still alvie a country where hitler is alive and so on and so forth! this movie is acclaimed because 1) it was performed not just by actors but by children who live this folm! 2) it carries a message of hope to unfortunate ppl 3) my fav: it dosen't have dress sequences and running around trees like a queer 4) it's music and the movie is on a level which can be shared and understood by everybody....
The news on Yahoo says "Oscar wins are a proof of "achieving India" in UPA rule: congress. What a shame for politicians. They are shameless. Only because of them the prospering of hutment and like Dharavi and comgress/UPA is proud. Accha hoga aagar sab politician dubmare.
