We are happy that Rahamaan won the oscar.. but don't we all know.. it was in no way.. a music that can even win a filmfare.. it was not even nearest to top 30 best songs of rahamaan.. See, for me.. its just not justified.. even for Rahaamn work, so far..

You are right. But yet, all other better songs of Rahman were not given to an english movie, and that too which was nominated for an Oscar. So there! Even a mediocre fare from Rahman was better than the best dished out by the world.

Music awards (background score, best song etc) in Oscar are not meant for best music....there's Grammy for that. Music awards in Oscar are meant for songs which have been best utilized by the movie and which go hand in hand with the theme of the movie. They are never supposed to be awards for best music.

Tax Exemption
by RAM KUMAR on Feb 24, 2009 10:35 AM  | Hide replies

Ex-FM requested Finance Ministry to give tax exemption for Oscar Winners.

A very brilliant idea. But we have some other ideas to encourage film industry.

Instead of tax exemption, we can give prizes or money worth of Rs.10 crores to each one.

Because our economy is always in Boom now-a-days. Every indian has employement with earnings of monthly income of Rs.10 lakhs. No beggers in the country.

So we can give more benefit, instead of tax exemption. If any loss, that could be recovered from increase in the Indirect Taxes on Commodities and Services. Or increase in the slab rates of individuals.

Jai Hind!!!!

Know that Fact
by Sam M on Feb 24, 2009 10:33 AM  | Hide replies

With all due respect to ARR .99percent OF Hollywood movies doest any musical score .So here also ARR had no competition .Instead of ARR if Danny Boyel had choosen Anu Malik .Even he would have got an Oscar. Then that would have been national shame. Only Rasool Pookutty sound mixing Award can be considered as a true achievement.ARR can win Oscar for best year IF he starts giving music here and there in Hollywood .ARR should look for Grammies instead of OSCARs .In our Indian Areana Music is culled with Movies so some people got overexcited and confused .

It is God's way of rewarding hard work and talent! You forget that Rahman got it for overall music as well. All movies have music, though not songs. Rahman got two oscars-one for songs and other for original score!

have you guys even seen the movie? have you guys even seen how Rahman has lifted the entire movie to a new level with his awesome background score? do you even know what you are talking about? this award is for original scores for movies that are oscar material not the other way round.

Did you bother to listen to other songs that were nominated ? Listen to the title song of "The Wrestler" by Bruce Springsteen and you'd realize that it wasnt a cakewalk for ARR.

ITS A FREE - SCHEME BY HOLLYWOOD..
by jaggu on Feb 24, 2009 10:29 AM  | Hide replies

After success by 3 - 4 Indian girls in the miss world contest- the sale of cosmetics & women's western wear from MNCs soared against Indian products. Now we have many MNC run TV channels and film productions - so they are sponsoring some awards as a scheme to get grip on the market. But just like Idli dosa beats Pizza - we will show them our originality. WE know good music by our ears..even Rehman music was a lot better elsewhere than for this movie!

What u said is absolutely true. All these are gimmicks played on indian ppl. Now hollywood is desperately in cash crunch. They expected Anil Ambani to finance their movies. Now cash is not that much generated in their countries and they want to attract a new market called India. Tomorrow India will be thrown out and these ppl will go to someother new market. If we look at the largers aspect, then we will come to know that this is nothing but a gambling.

looks like you're the biggest id1ot on this forum. in fact there are a lot like you on the rediff board, people who just cannot digest success or positivity around. you have to come up with some conclusions. why not enjoy the movie and try to read the message it's trying to deliver and do something about it. the movie shows where our country stands on the global stage and the thousands of things we can do about fixing it.
