It is such an unfortunate situation that the professors have to demand a pay hike. In a society the teachers and the police must be the ones who should be getting good pay and aminities. Because of this IT boom all the good teachers left engineering colleges and became consultants because of they were being payed peanuts in these engineering colleges opened make money. At least now we should realize that teachers get their due respect and remuneration
IIT PROFESSORS ARE DOING AYEOMAN SERVICE TO THE SOCIETY BY HONING UP TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE BEST SCHOLASTIC TALENTS.THEY DESERVE MUCH MUCH MORE THAN THEY EXPECT...BALA
Even labourers are paid better than these IIT professors. Give them atleast a part of the respect taht they deserve. I live in Dubai and having mixed with the good for nothing academicians of the Middle East, I clearly know where Indian professors, academicians stand... They are great ad they deserve a better deal.... otherwise don't cry when they migrate en masse to the USA where knowledge is held in hig esteem and so do men and women of knowledge.....

Arun, they cannot go to US. Professor post is tough in US. To get a tenure track post, they will have to bring millions of external fund to their university. They need make inventions and publish papers in top notch journals. Teaching is not sufficient.

Hello genius, I heard IISc is top in publishing papers. Jadavpur University and Anna University are also among top 10.

Dear Bala just a point for you to consider... Without much of facility in labs, most of the IIT faculties are producing a minimum of 3-5 papers in reputed journals per year apart from conferences.

Bala, no point explaining facts to people like deepu and avinash. They either live in fools' paradise or they are cleverly trying to misuse the false pride the media has instilled in the minds of gullible common public about the iit faculties!

Bala is undermining the capabilities of IIT Profs... He thinks they are inefficient just like he is.... Comon man.....IIT Profs do make inventions and publich papers..even wid so limited resources in india.....and when they go to US they do much better work...just becoz they get sufficient resources..... anyway do u even know wht publishing a paper means????..have u ever even seen a journal??????.....

Oh yes! Here is the CNR Rao talking in the name of avinash singh!! Have you any idea abt IITs world ..well leave the world..Asian ranking?? If IIT profs are so brilliant why is it that they fare so poorly in research in comparison to even the other asian institutes???!! In fact in India itself there are people doing better research in institutes with much limited facilities. Do u know even simple institutes like RRL,tvm, who dont even have their institute email id, publish in journals with above ten IF??! Every institute has few really good people but what matters is the overall standing of the institute in terms of research contribution. And this shd be compared with other institutes in India after normalising the difference in facilities and the kind of students provided. And, if IIT salaries are bad why r they not quitting? GE kind of companies offer hell a lot of salary then why dont they quit and take it?? How many IIT faculties actually quit their jobs?? These iit profs are at least allowed to make money from the projects, which again mostly comes from govt depts like DST. Scientists in ISRO/BARC/DRDO are not allowed to get any such earnings. And in IIT any body and everybody becomes a prof in a flash . Compare it with the time scale and the contribution reqd to get a professorship in other international institutes. If they have any conscience, they shd ask for cut in the salaries in Professor scale and an increase in the entry level! Because, they r right in saying
Re: Re: Re: Re: Even labourers are paid better
by AK on Aug 26, 2009 11:35 AM
that in entry level one needs to pay high. But at the same time they shd make it more difficult to get a professorship.

AK don't talk nonsense if you don't know. Who told you IIT profs earn money from project? Do you know what is a project? Have you ever written any project in your life time? There is no provision to get money from project unless you steal. Who told you in IIT everybody becomes professor in a flash? People spend about 10 years to become a prof if they have good publication record. Pl. give the reference of the paper published by RRL which has impact factor of 10 and stop writing like a moron.
This is the real panic situation for the great PhD holders in India after spending most of their life time in labs and teaching. That’s why people stay abroad. Poor hard working research slaves deserve more than cool IT slaves!
IIT needs to look at their research contributions compared to universities which operates on a much restricted funding.
Look at the mentoring of IIT Bombay the way they have filled up positions in Gandhinagar. All the fellows who have known faculties in IIT Bombay got jobs and candidates whose applications were stronger were eased out. I even know of a candidate who submitted his application to the interview panel and got himself selected the same way. Probably this indeed is a great example of mentoring.

i suppose the correct title shoud be "LOw salaries at IIT have immensaly contributed to our brain drain"...isnt it
These politicians and IAS lobby have cornered all the benefits that could accrue. They only say that teacher is the leading light and we should honour them. But on ground as we see the teachers are the last ones to get any benefit. At no other place except our country that a politician decides to raise his pay, similar for IAS. Only a IAS becomes the member of Pay Commission and then decides that IAS should get maximum hike. So its all lip service and more qualified technical persons have to suffer.

A majority of IAS babus sitting in key posts are IIT'ans. I do not think they will forget their professor who gave them A grades.

Fee at IIT is far lower as compared to any other Engineering College... and those needy are provided full financial support... and most of the ppl who make it to IIT are not rich....Go there and see yourself rather than making ur own predictions
