In this blog many have written that IIT prof deserve...babus are getting more...etc...
Let me clear it.
1. In pay commission fixation to new salary is done based on their past one. So, IIT prof will also get same as that of a babu. One IIT prof salary is equal to that of a IAS officer. But, that is also less since it works out to be less than 1 lakh per month (surely after many years spent on career making and working as asst.,associat prof.) 2. Assistan and associate prof will get even less salary. About half of prof (i.e. 50k per month). 3. Scientist in ISRO/DRDO are getting incentive like 10k for very senior scientist (experience more than 12 years) and 5-6k for juniour scientist. Peanuts...(300cr chandrayaan < 1600cr of Bandra sealink, 60,000cr farmer load waivoff, 700cr of 747 plan, 70,00,000cr black swish bank money)(spending 3% of NASA budget) 4. Any kind of prof can practice consultancy work...but, scientist in such department can't.
So, according to me not only these IIT prof. but, scientists, cops, military men, etc., also deserves better package.
by media, 6th pay commission was highlighted as big things...like big burden on India etc.,..I ask one thing, if salary is so high then why there is no rush for joining such department. Still 6th pay commission will have 0.3% burden on GDP.
these profs can easily go abroad n earn lots.. we shuld thank them for producing some of the finest students ..n helping IIT maintain such high standards.. some of the most selfless jobs in our country are the lowest paid.. armed forces, cops, etc..

Let them get out, they are already doing it as 'visiting faculty' and fabricating documents. They actually go there and work for some companies as consultants and earn big. Indian salary is just pocket money, even IIM professors do it, all are cheats.
I don't understand one thing that why you guys are so angry about everything. you just want to empty your vent here or just want to prove that you are higher in intellect?
arre yaar, the kind of service IIT professors are providing to the country, we should be grateful to them and yes they are highly underpaid.
a professor is paid around 40-45K after 20-25 years of service. While after 20 years any engineer earns at least 1 Lakh a month. Govt Babus gets more that this. While most of the professors in IITs are well educated from reputed universities. I am not saying that they are doing a favor to us, they are following there interest but that doesn't mean we should ignore their contribution.
Moreover, THIS article is not about that. The current concern is that, with the increasing number of seats in IITs, IITs need more professors whose qualifications are at par with institution's standard, but with these salary packages they are finding it hard to lure good brains to this job.

Ya everything is right , but I was thinking how many IIT students contribute to India !! or say join Indian company !! Most of them will become NRI's I guess.
Since every govt. employees have looted the tax payers money in last pay revision, why the poor IITians should be left behind. They must be suitably compensated.
I read the whole article. I could not fathom how much do they get yearly or what is their package including the accommodation which they get in IIT campuses. Meaningful comparison and discussion can only take place when all the facts are known.I am sure most of the participants in the discussion do not know how much they get. Yet they are talking, according to them, intelligently.India is yet a poor country. How can you compare the salaries paid in Dubai and in America. Unfortunately we Indians are too easily moved by emotions. Whenever any person or group of persons achieves something we trend to reward them without bothering about the implications it will cause. Ofcourse our technical and creative people do produce real values (not like politicians and easy gaining businessmen) and they should be cared for. Materially speaking, if we do not do this, they will fly to lucrative pastures. So we have to be judicious.

@Satish Saxena... An IIT Assistant Prof gets around 18k... An IIT Prof wid 20 yr experience gets 30k.. Director gets around 45k... and accomodation is provided in around 40 year old apartments

Mr sathish As of now IIT (b4 6th pay commision), asst profs basic is 12000, thn HRA CA DA.. Around a Ph.D with 3 yr experience will get less than 30Ks per month as salary. If they opt for house inside IITs then their HRA around 8000 will deducted from salary. Exactly i dont know the revised pay scale, may be 40Ks as starting salary
If anybody really probes to know private sector salary, he will surely conclude that govt sector salary is nowadays better than private sectors. In private sector few people got very high salary which has normally been shown everywhere. Otherwise salary of mass people are on lower side, of course nobody includes IT sector here. Therefore Govt. has given enogh salary to their people. D. Paul

Government have paid enough salaries to their ppl and themselves...except IIT PRofs..who really deserve more than idiot babus..... btw where the hell have u probed and found that govt pays better than pvt sector.....gimme a case???? i assume u consider the capabilities of a person while comparing salaries....I am curious to know what u compare an IIT Prof with...
I am a student of IIT and I have seen my supervisor spending 18 hrs a day in our lab. Moreover he helps us financially as well, in need. He is a person of international repute. He hardly cares for money. But we as his students feel that had he been in US he would have earned millions. The kind of knowledge he has distributed in his career, there would be many persons who are now earning in Lakhs after taking basic lessons from him. There are many such Prof's in IIT who deserves lil more respect than what our Govt. show to them.

How many of these students who are taught by such good professors stay in India !!?? I am sure u are also thinking of going abroad !! U might have already done ur internship in foreign country I guess :) No offence against professors though ! They can demand any amount they want !! freedom of speech , expression !!

Yes himadri, The fresh student who is passing out this year from any institute is getting 20Ks per year. But the profs in IITs after 10-20 years of experience is getting around 50-60Ks presently. Think if any guys in industry with 10-20 yrs of experience salary will be?...

...and the elementary school teachers earn much less than the petrol allowance that many of their students whom they taught get! And infact in many paltry salaries for months!

The teaching salary on all Indian institutes should be on par with industrial sector, then only academic institutes will attract more bright youngsters. These will automatically increase R&D work and slowly new inventions will come from the academic institutes. Else all the institutes will be like a factory to produce engineers only.

I agree wid shankar... Increasing salaried of IIT Profs will not be the money spend..but an investment that will pay back immensaly....
it is not only iits, but the indian admidtrative services, policing, defense, public health sectors, services like railways postal school and other degree colleges, do not attract quality persons. there should be revamp of the idea how we remunerate and treat them for efficient provision of services at freequent intervals. there should be no irrational political interference in implementing. a damage will take long time and more resources to correct.
They are justified in their demand. The fees of the IITs have been hiked. Central govt employees are benifitted by the 6th pay commission. Why not IIT staf? If you give peanuts you will get only monkeys.
