by Aakash Bhatnagar on Nov 07, 2008 11:14 AM

If Mr. Mahesh is trying to teach all govts. and Indians to live in there states wonder he should call Marathis first serving in other states. And yes, let me remind you there are lot of ppl working on other places too, its not only mumbai where UP, Bihar and ppl from other state work.
But for sure they are humilated and ill treated in Mumbai, you should be ashamed of yourself preaching others. Go first take care of farmers of Maharashtra dying, u proud man. Preach to the farmers of Maharashtra that they should not die. Noobish article.

This might be misleading and can be misused by politicians. India has bigger GDP than luxemburg or austria or finland. That doesnt stop indians to move to those countries and not vice versa. Because per capita income is the one that leads to this sort of economic migration. This is not good for a nation to populate some parts heavily and vacate other parts. We really have to develop the under/less developed parts. So if you love your state please address the issue rather keeping a blind eye. Over the years UP/Bihar including even MP, Orissa have lagged in terms of development, and time has come for them to get the past glory back

Overloaded mumbai
by Hardik Patel on Nov 07, 2008 11:04 AM  | Hide replies

I understand the problems of UP,Bihar, but Mumbai also need to improve. For basic amenities, city is so cheap and without any regulatory checkes, that people will keep coming. Anyone without education, skills and money can come in, can travel with 10 Rs in train easily, can open a vada pav stall and still earn at least daily earnings easily. If demand is more than supply, what you should do, increase the price and control the demand. Make it affordable only for people with skills and knowledge.

Mumbaikars are Type A personalities
by Suraj Singh on Nov 07, 2008 10:52 AM  | Hide replies

7. UP and Bihar are amongst the most populous states in India. Maharashtrians should stop the idiotic practice of birth control and do their level best to outdo the stellar example set by their brethren in UP and Bihar.

8. Mumbai Police are often compared to Scotland Yard. What! Do Mumbaikars have no national pride? Let Mumbai Police reach the low crime detection rate and high corruption levels achieved by their brothers-in-arms in UP and Bihar. Should Mumbai Police come up against a gun-toting psychopath on a BEST bus they are honor bound to call the MPs of Bihar on how to tackle him. Even if he poses a clear and present danger and shoots at passengers, they should sit by and twiddle their thumbs till they get further orders from Bihar.

9. Bihar was India's richest state at the time of Independence and now is the poorest whilst today Maharashtra is amongst the richest. On moral grounds, Maharashtra should take the blame and Maharashtrians should feel terribly guilty about it.

10. Mumbaikars are Type A personalities who suffer from the "overachievers syndrome" and the city contributes about 40% to the national exchequer. They should learn to relax and wi

Let us all support Lalu, Amar, Mayawti and Mulayam
by Suraj Singh on Nov 07, 2008 10:32 AM  | Hide replies

After mulling over the Raj Thackeray issue I have realized we should support our beloved leaders from UP/Bihar and follow in their footsteps:

1. National crime statistics say that in 2006, only 10 (yes ten!) people in Bihar dialled 100, the police complaints number as against thousands dialling Mumbai Police 100 every day. This puts a dreadful load on Mumbai Police and they get stressed out. Let us only make 10 calls in a year to police emergency number 100 throughout Maharashtra.
2. Among the 15 major states in India, Maharashtra and Punjab have high per capita income of more than Rs.4200 per annum at 1980-81 prices. The poorest state (Bihar) has less than one-fourth of the per capita income of the richest state (Maharashtra). This is grossly unfair. All the people living in Maharashtra should voluntarily take cuts in salaries and businesses should lower profit margins and production so that Maharashtra’s per capita income comes down by 1/4th. All licenses for industries should be revoked. Mumbai accounts for almost 30% of FDI in the State. FDIs should be banned. This will bring Maharashtra on par with UP and Bihar which have low or zero FDI.

3. Bihar is India's most lawless state - a murder takes place every two hours, a rape is committed every six and a bank is looted every day, according to police records. This goes against equality. Maharashtra should try become India’s most lawless state.

12. Just like most of the folks from Bihar get jobs in the railways thanks to the Union Railway Minister being from Bihar, therefore all jobs in the aviation, petroleum, agriculture and home departments should be reserved for Maharashtrians as the Union Ministers are from their state . Also just like the Railway Minister, the Union Ministers from Maharashtra should get involved in a jobs-for-land scam. The recruitments ads for said departments should appear only in Marathi in newspapers in Maharashtra.

13. The population density in Mumbai 17,000 people per square kilometer whilst that of Patna is 1,132 persons per square kilometer. This is utterly ridiculous! Patna looks eerily empty! Mumbaikars should migrate en masse to Patna till the city's population density crosses 17,000. They should be helped by the farmers in Vidarbha who rather than commit suicide should get involved in an old tradition and grab land in UP and Bihar.

14. A total of 47.5% of the Bihar population are literate against India's 65.38%. To promote harmony, Maharashtrians should withdraw their children from school till the literacy level falls to 47.5%.
Jai Hind! Jai UP! Jai Bihar!
Jai Maharashtra!

Regarding suraj singh's first point:

only 10 dialed 100 service becoz:
1) others don't have basic telephone connections
or
2) lack of awareness of usage of 100
or
3) they might be searching for digit "100" on the dial pad...instead of "1-0-0"

Crime highest in UP

Another one of the multitudinous advertising campaigns in which the eternal superstar, Amitabh Bachchan is appearing? Well, no. The superstar, who has baffled the cinegoers all these decades with his acting talent and humility, has stunned everyone this time for another reason.
And what is he made to claim? That crime rate in UP is low, and therefore UP is thriving and people of UP are sleeping peacefully! Before going any further a few statistics!

highest incidents of violent crimes among all States in the country, i.

e. 25,352 (12.5 percent) out of 2, 02,640 cases has been reported from Uttar Pradesh;

Yes..agriculturally strong because of ganges. Those stats could be a bit misleading because of size of UP is quite large. If you consider the per capita income it would come down significantly, but condition in UP may not be as poor as bihar. but development in UP was not uniform, some old good cities but growth rate was not as high as happened un south india. If you are talking about software export, u'r taking noida/gurgaon into consideration which is not for the poor people without land . However my intention is not to show how bad UP/Bihar is and its people. We all understand there is a gap in terms of development/industrialization in some of the states and thats why people tend to migrate to economically better states. Lets address that by filling that gap.

Common Sense????
by Sachin Patwardhan on Nov 07, 2008 08:57 AM  | Hide replies

I don't think, this has anything to do with Marathi manoos.. I am marathi, born and raised in mumbai. I have been living in US for past 12 yrs, but u know what I still consider mumbai as my home, and not new york. Before u guys start the crap, I will be moving back to mumbai for good.... coz this is my home...

I have problems ppl migrating to Mumbai without any skills whatsoever... does not matter from which state? Please use common sense, if I did not have any skills or did not make any significant contributions to local economy, would I be welcomed in US? Of course not...

If you are from bombay, you would understand what I am talking about... Bombay is the financial capital of India, but look at the infrastructure... It can not be improved unless we get rid of these slums and stop ppl coming into bombay (except qualified, skilled ppl).

It looked to me a bit narrow-minded/selfish thinking. Poor people go there to take up the low-profile jobs which doesnt really need very special skills and needs to be done anyhow but are refused by local people. So in some way or the other those poor chaps contribute to the growth of mumbai. Probably quite similarly the way people of india/china/latin america filled up the void in us. Now they live there for long years and no question of sending them back. However to curb new migration we need decentralization. Developing the other parts of the country to diversify the growth and thus migration too.

For people who go to United States, there are norms for controling number of migrants.

The same structure should be established in India for migrating from one state to another.

This does not mean that a skilled worker wont get migration to any other state. If worker is skilled and industry demands him, he should get immigration into other state.

This will keep balance of number of jobs as well as industrial development of all states. This will give fare opprotunities for Biharis to establish software development firms there in Begusarai, Siyan, Patna, Vaishali etc...

This will reduce the flow of illigal Bangaladeshi migrents into cental and suthern states.

So you mean what applies for Indian workers to go to USA should be applied amongst indian states? Then why dont we have 28 separate countries? Dont you think that its a separatist thought? If you are concerned about having one nation, we really have to do the decentralization to address the problem of migration.
