Agreed there was advantage to Mumbai in particular. However in recent times dont you think so, states like Gujrat,Tamilnadu,Adhrapradesh has also came up as flourishing states. Somthing similar was never seen to UP o BIHAR. I also agree the development is not quick fix and will surely time. However we should first acknolwedge the fact that there is indeed a problem and should work on resolving it.

Just as there is a vicious circle of poverty, there is a circle of wealth, i.e wealth creates more wealth. Wealth increases in concentric circles. If the govt was the major factor in causing development we would not have a demand for separate states like Vidarbha Telangana etc. We would not have naxal activities in AP, North Karnataka, some parts of TN & Kerala etc. As I said earlier India has really started developing after 1991, sleepy towns like Hyderabad & Bangalore have come on the financial map. Migration is not as much a problem as has been blown out of proportion. The city has expanded to several suburbs, with different municipalities governing different areas. When people r living nearly 50-60 kms away from the main city, how can the infrastructure in the main city be burdened.

Migration is fine, but MASS-MIGRATION is not
by goldtiger on Nov 08, 2008 09:49 AM  | Hide replies

Good article by Mr. Vijaypurkar.

Migration is fine, but MASS-MIGRATION is not. It is a form of aggression, especially so when these migrants do not assimilate, but maintain their identity to form a vote-bank and ultimately aim to usurp political power from locals. That's what is happening in Maharashtra.

Please save Maharashtra from these UP/Bihari politicians who are making inroads into the political space in Maharashtra, and aim to convert Maharashtra into UP/Bihar.

You are correct. Legal migration of specific skilled individuals is welcome globally to meet demand for talent. But large scale migration of uneducated males to city footpaths; damages the law & order situation permanently. They neither pay taxes nor follow any single rule of city. As hawkers they undercut the law abiding businesses. These masses are encouraged to go to Mumbai just to save New Delhi. Will Soniaji accept such masses opposite her house?

Whatever voilence is not the solution
by Bawandar on Nov 07, 2008 11:30 PM  | Hide replies

What raj thakare is doing is just to gain vote bank of shivsena. Voilence against innocent people is not the solution to the problem. It could be controlled by making strict laws. The slums needs to be rehabilated and no new slums should be allowed. All goverment officials taking bribe should be punished.

I moved out of Mumbai because of the falling living standard
by sumit verma on Nov 07, 2008 10:33 PM  | Hide replies

Migration is a natural phenomenon mate.. You cant blame anyone for it. Even people from Maharashtra move to AP and Karnataka periodically for work.

In fact, i moved out of Mumbai, where i lived for 9 years because of the falling living standards..

Mumbai's problem is
by Guest on Nov 07, 2008 09:38 PM

Unlike other metros, barring Delhi, Mumbai speaks Hindi and feeds people with work opportunities. It's difficult to stop people from migrating to Mumbai. At the same time I understand the plight of mumbaikars. How do we solve it? Not by goondaism.

Maharashtra government and the mumbai local administration must make special rules for living in Mumbai. It must take on the slums and do a singapore when it comes to dirtying the city. Rules must be stern and apply to all. No one should be allowed to squat or sleep on public places, even in nights. If every mumbaikar is subjected to a standard way of living in mumbai then that will definitely discourage unscrupulous and troublesome people from coming to Mumbai and even if they come they will be forced to flee on their own.

Secondly, there must be social transformation in poor states such as UP and Bihar. It's possible that UP is the second largest state in terms of economy but the point how much of its population really benefit out of it. My guess is it must be a low figure and there must be a big inequality. If you take Tamilnadu, the state has progressed mainly because of the social transformation brought upon by a leader known as Periyar. He revolutionised the class system in TN and brought up people of various backgrounds to a par level. In a way he created awareness among the masses and brought them up. This resulted more equity than it would have been had Periyar not happenned.

I appreciate the contribution of all Indians in making of mumbai and other metros. However, there is a common notion among some communities, that they have built mumbai and they run the show in mumbai. If they feel so, they can build 10 mumbai cities in their respective states, which is impossible for them. Metro cities like Mumbai are built because of their open attictude, good governance and culture. That attitude, transparency, administration, infrastructure has to be built by local people and in turn the local government. I believe if UP and Bihar understand this they can become better states for business and industry to flourish. They should compete with states like Punjab, Gujrat, Maharashtra etc in terms of overall development. That in long run will empower India, if you take into consideration the population of UP and Bihar. Trust me, not only people from UP and Bihar, but whole of India will be proud of these states if they develop. The Developed states of India should assist the underdeveloped states. They can adopt them as sister states. Please suggest some really good long term solutions.

Mr Rajesh

I will like to tell you that Mumbai & Maharashtra is a land blessed by god. i.e the main reason Maharashtra is on the top. The Politicians of maharashtra always cares about the Maharashtrians and also they work for the Maharashtraian people. All the Marathi Politicians Mr Balasaheb Thackre, Mr Sharad Pawar, Mr Raj Thackre, Chajjan Bhujbal, Mr Uddav Thackre, Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh, Mr Narayan Rane, Mr R.R.Patil are really god Leaders for the State They have done various Good Things for the State. Even they Speak Against Each other in front of Media. But In the Internal Issue they Help Each other and they always support the issues in favour of Maharshtra. Because of the National level Party they are not allowed to Speak in Favour of the State. But in the real life the support each other and they cares for Marathi People And Maharashtra. Which is more than There Life.
