This is dirty politics stated as Mayawati has already started to scrap all projects started by Mulayam sing. It will hurt UP Economy. This is the reason why UP is one of the poorest state in India. Because of this dirty politics.
The only people who will suffer are the poor folks who would have ended-up selling thier lands for the SEZ or those who would have gotten jobs contructiong the at the SEZ and working there. The Ambani's of this world, with thier very deep pockets, would still live exceedingly well whether this project goes forward or not. Mayawati as a responsible CM, must do what's best for the people of the state first, despite her appetite for vengeance. Pettiness, egotism and self-aggrandizement has been bane of Indian netadom, to the detriment of the state.
Why don't Indian govt revive agriculture as an industry and make it more profitable than setting up these SEZ and sit and look for foreign investments.
Let the industry buy land at market rate directly from the farmers. Why should the government become an agent of the industry to steal the farmers land and cheat them by paying pittance. Even the British didn't do this. Lot of industries want land as a real estate investement and the SEZs are excuse for land grab (of course there are some exceptions to this). Let the poor farmers not get cheated by the corrupt government in cahoots with the industry.
