I would have opposed this decision if it would have any company other than Reliance. Ambani brothers are well known doing dirty business in a most unethical way. I wish scrapping reliance sez in UP really happens (still I doubt, it will).
Developed nations used uncultivable land for promoting EPZ / SEZ, Chile in Latin America, used it's arid desert in the North and it's Frozen terrain in the South for EPZ and whatever cultivable land was available (Chile in the thinnest and longest country in the world) Chile focussed on AGRICULTURE.. India's wealth are it's people and it's land BOTH being sacrificed or rather being screwed up...

I see umteem number of messages on this message board, supporting and opposing SEZs (majority supporting)... would anybody explain with clarity the advantages of SEZ to the country and its people as a whole... not in a perspective of industrial development... in overall growth in employment, education, upliftment of poor, etc. and the beneficiaries of these SEZ (are they the comman man or the landgrabbers?)... let any economist or industrialist in this group give some background and benefit in respect of this subject...
(here everyone is an expert commentator).. let us invite some general knowledge too
Why India always follows other nations practice for development..Is building numbers of SEZs like China is our development..the big companies are buying farmers land at a rate of peanuts, then they will develop some commercieal buldings or even residential buildings from which these big companies will make good profit..sad thing is not eucated people in India understand these things and keep supporting these SEZs

China dont have number of SEZ. There are just six SEZ in China......thats a good model...they developed mostly along the coastal line...Gujarat is relplicating that.
The first messing up salvo from the new rulers. God knows how many more will come and what will it nullify. Uttar pradesh must be renamed Utter Pradesh?

Wonderful work by The Lady . Anil ambani and remaining from his class should be taught a lesson . None of his projects in UP have been a sucess and he and his organisation REL has made fortunes by folling the people of uttar pradesh and delhi . Hope he is executed publically in some of her districts for whatever sins he has commited .He is a bloody traitor who has survived on refuge of the corrupt Mulayam singhs government and unlike his brother Mukesh .

Amabanies did for Gujrati and those who are investor. But they did everthing wrong. They made lot of money by mal practice. UP have major state share in India's Agriculture GDP. It is more than 28%. taking land for SEZ is not a zoke. Farmers are poor in UP but not hungry. They are because of poor agriculture policy. But playing with cultivate field not a good idea. We have to come up with SEZ for food processing. We do not want only SW industries. UP already fifth largest exporter in SW and may be it is good if we have few SEZ for Food processing.

Dude, Eventhough ruled by junk part still UP is far better than your state. 35% of Major Crop/Milk/Pulse/Sugar/potato/other vegi produced by UP and Most of the small cities have thousands of small scale industries. UP per capita income low only because of population. Fifth Largest SW export Zone. 70% population doing agriculture. We need SEZ for Agriculture/food processing/Bio etc not for SW only. Several SEZ proposed for UP and REL SEZ one of them. We already have India's largest leather export zone.
Thats the problem with the black money business - there are no proper transition procedures. Reliance had a deal with Mullahyumm, and when Moolahyum left his job, he should have transitioned that deal to Mayawati. But he did not. Now Maya will snort like a bull, and Ambani will have to show her green grass, oops money, to make her quiet again!
Otherwise the stress would have been on identifying and rectifying the indiscrepancies rather than altogether shelve a project that would get so much development to the state.
Mayawati is working a step further to bring down UP in all aspects. Even if the above porject was against the rule, I believe that something is better than nothing. With current situantions in UP no business tycoon would like to invest. Insted of giving further support to the project, she decided to sent wrong message among the investors by doing this thereby in future no maniwallas would be interested to go UP. Before its too late, dear UP people just choose educated people NOT stupid people like MAYA AND MULAYAM

UP and other states from the belt are pretty much on similar lines...... each successive govt faults the previous govt while at the same time poverishing the state itself.... the less said about the politicians there the better. The states are more or less personal fiefdoms for those in power.

Fully agree with you. Thanks for writing. Everyone in the country wants to go around the world and talk India is developed, india is shining, india is great etc.. etc.. But at home, they will do everything to pull down anybody climbing up in life. Average Indian is jealous of others who do well in life. For the same reason, they are anti rich. See the Indian movies - most of them about heroes fighting against the rich man !! Just look at this very forum ( rediff). I beleieve majority will write supporting mayawati who has already started implementing anti rich policies. The same people who write against SEZ also go out and open their big mouth about how developed is India, how great is India, how rich are indians !!
