Absolutley Right
by Rama Raju on Apr 13, 2006 09:00 AM

absolutley true, the concept of reservations is very flawed in the first place and introducing it at a crucial and very important stage in the education system, i.e. University level is completley insane. C'mon guys these are the people who would lead the nation into its bright future, which by all means is cognizant and it is only right to expect the people who do this to be competent. This introduction of reservations in higher education would deprive us of competent people and jeopardize our future as a nation. We are at the threshold of unprecedented development and we cannot let go our oppurtunity. This is not to suggest that people who avail reservation seats are not competitive. They will be when they are educated in a proper manner, the change for this should come at the primary education level and not at the university level. Provide them an oppurtunity to learn in a good compititive environment at the primary level, this would enable them to compete for the seats at the university level. The government should try to do this and create a competitive environment instead trying to leapfrog the reserved people into universities, this would neither help them nor the NATION

Merit Only

Help them by giving them monetary support, not by giving them free seats over many other more deserving students.

A very thoughtful article
by Mahesh on Apr 13, 2006 07:49 AM

Pretty impressed with the author's views. Well, hundreds of such suggestions have been discussed; But the deciding authority, I am sure, never ever brainstorm on such decisions.
Politicians are always behind power & money. If IT revolution hadn't happened, I am sure most of Indian brains would have either moved to West or even middle east.
God save our country!!!!

caste versus merit
by nitin paradkar on Apr 13, 2006 07:44 AM

Isn't there democracy in the country? Didnt we choose our government? Isnt our careless approch is kicking back to us?

Every one knows the main reason for 50% reservation was vote bank and it doesnt required rocket science to understand that we so called upper caste dont show up for voting.

The rule of democracy is Goverment should be afraid of people not the opposite. Lets unite and show the people like Arjun singh,VP Singh, Lalu, mayawati & mulayam singh "Masehas of caste based reservation system" what we are capable of.

The making of caste free Devloped India.............

Jai Hind....

Bravo! But Will The Corrupt Listen?
by Kane on Apr 13, 2006 06:34 AM

No, the corrupt won't listen! Why would they? OBCs are >50% of the electorate. This is an attempt by netas to divide & rule, ensuring that the divide that exists can never be bridged. They know full well that no one man in today's world will come forward to lead the nation on the right path. Who will have the time, they say? And they are right! The Mahatmas & the Boses & the Ambedkars are of a foregone era. So, whats the solution? Some sacrifice on the part of our youth!

1: Let the youth unite & form parties that are honest, totally transparent, mentored by people like NRN. Come to power & enact laws that are progressive

2: Enact laws to ensure adequate representation of women & retirement of politicians by 58/60

3: Limit reservation upto the high school level; Improve govt. education standards (don't we have a cess for that?); Open up the education sector, but have a strict regulatory body so they adhere to threshold standards; competition will ensure quality

4: Focus extra efforts on educating & uplifting the girl child. Today's girls are the mothers of tomorrow. Educated mothers will raise responsible citizens who will make India proud!

Jai Maata Ki!

Hit it right on the head!

Give reservation, or free primary education or upto 12th grade. Then it has to be merit. But how can this be done when India elect criminals to parliament? I wish I hear one time when a political leader of a major party speak on national television he or she talk about education, food, water etc. Nope. india is not the problem, Indians are:)

Voicing my views.

To allow caste to overwrite merit is shameful

Hi there

I highly appreciate the person who wrote the article. I believe that he is not able to enjoy the previledges that he would have had if there were no reservations. I can understand the pain and agony that the majorities are experiencing right now, as i am from the same group. But sometimes when i put myself in there position i pity them. Because the pain and agony they are going through is so much even after the reservations that if we were in that position we would have composed more articles than we are doing right now.

With Regards.

Bye.

With regards.

Caste versus merit

Dear Mr. Ramananda Sengupta,

I guess you are living in a perfect world or your were dreaming, where you would like to eradicate the caste system and make it a perfect country to live. I really agree with your thoughts, but this reformation in you is coming out of frustration, but for your information thats not the case. If it were not for the reservations the century old custom of dominating the lower caste would still be there. Infact with all this reservations its still there. People like you who are frustrated with the reservations, show it in the private sector where reservations are meant for the upper caste.

The only way to get rid of the caste system in india is if we go back to the stone age. you want eradicate the 5000 years custom in just 50 years of reservations. You are expecting a lot from the people of india. You need to face this for another 4950 years for you to understand what they (lower caste)went through. Only then it will be fair to say we can get rid of this demon.

With Best Regards,
Bobji.

Why Us?
by vk on Apr 13, 2006 03:20 AM

I seriously cannot understand the desperate need of our HRD minister to announce quotas now. So now we are going to have quotas for private schools, public schools, for universities, for getting into the army, for private institutions...so what else is left. Are these guys in the government really out of their mind, are they seriously concerned about the growth of the country or are they being paid by lobbiests to do this.. who knows .. this whole thing stinks.

So what is the whole point of being a merit student, we come to point where students are going to think twice about educating themselves. India with this werido politicians is being ruined and they are going to affect the economy in one way or the other.

Why doesn't India have a system like the United States where any new law is put to the vote, where people vote to make a change.

Oh Well !!! who listens to us anyway....
