why the hell should be caste system
by pawan on Apr 12, 2006 09:55 PM

when democratic india believes in secularism, why the
hell it has to consider any ones caste / creed.

because of this god damn reservation we have
thousands of undeserving pin heads sitting in many
government sectors.. adding to corruption / low
quality / incompetence & red tapism.

Evidently they bring down the entire nation in
various sectors.

If this continues like this.. a day will come when
you can see india will be split based on relegion.
and class level split. A dirty civil war will fan.

Let the bloody political system stop playing around
with reservation.. better abolish the reservation.

Lets destroy the caste
by Ture_Indian on Apr 12, 2006 09:48 PM

I agree with you Mr. Sengupta. Lets destroy the caste by keeping the lower castes down by not uncovering their potential. Lets burry them deep down the poverty level so that they and their coming generation works as low wages earners so that your kith and kin can enjoy the priviledges they have. Lets keep the big foot of merit (?) on their back so that they never rise.

Good subject but not-so-good language
by Ashwin on Apr 12, 2006 09:28 PM

Dear Rediff,

The columnist here has written a good column in terms of the issues raised. But the language used here is downright mediocre. You dont except to read words like Goddamn and Sucks on a news website of national repute. Its not a blog that gives writers the liberty to express themselves in whichever way they want. I would request Rediff to be a little more conservative during posting columns on their website.

Caste Versus Merit
by Deepak on Apr 12, 2006 09:23 PM

I truly agree with the author. I myself have faced these problems. We all should wake up fight this reality. Politicians are the only one who take the full advantage of this reservation system. Politicians are for Poeple and People are not for Policticians.

Merit should always be acknowledged, otherwise there is no value for true students. Reservations discourage the merit students and the future of bright india.

Tacitus
As you sow so will you reap
by Tacitus on Apr 12, 2006 08:59 PM

Caste system was formed my upper caste people to ensure their reservation to supremacy and domination for thousands of years. Now they are getting back the same of their own medicine. I back reservation policy as it is the only way to normalize the society in true sense. Even in US, black people have been provided provisions in education and job sectors to uplift the black society and still they manage to achieve highest gold medals in olympics. BTW, what is the score of our sports achievement in olympics even though there is no reservation in sports at the moment. We a country of over billion people struggle to get even a bronze medal. Even countries like kenya manage to get few medals to their tally. So why so much sceptical over reservation policies?
Discrimination over caste is still much alive even in urban society and the only way to normalize the society is by empowering the backward society.
Yes, In my opinion, 50% sounds bit high but some percentage of reservations has to be there.

Action Plan!!!???
by TheGame on Apr 12, 2006 08:22 PM

Very well said sir! And it's god damn true! The question is ... what should we do now. Can we actually stop this from happening or this is gonna die out with little uproars here and there. Why is it constitutional at the first place ... just because they made that stupid 104th amendment??? Can anything happen or we are simply hoping against hope. One of these days i am gonna study the constitution ... and find out ... isn't this reservation in direct conflict with fundamental right to equality and oppourtunity for all citizens of india. Its like caste system turned upside down! You are doomed if you belong to the general category and priviledged other ways. We all know the cons and how this is deteriorating progress ... but no one knows what should be done ... there has to be an action plan to stop ... come on yaar, there has to be a way out! Otherwise God help Dear Poor India!

Request to rediff to increase word count above 1200
by Sachin Patel on Apr 12, 2006 08:19 PM

This artical is totally one sided and is attack on reservation system, which is defined by contitution of india, And Constitution of india made by really intelligent and experience people like Babasaheb Ambedkar, Since this artical is published on rediff website and is publically viewed, I really like to express my self in defence reservation system with thousends of comments, And mostly I want to counter attack with my words to the allegation made by author of this artical, And as reponsible website of democratic nation India Rediff should allow that
But character limit of 120 is quite a limitation, So can I request humbly and peacefully to Rediff to increase word count same as number of characters of artical on such contravertial subjects, So that I can counter argue properly and fully in the defence of one sided thinking put forward by such articles
Strong opposition is I think good sign of healthy democracy, I mean its like in wrestling 2 fighters are always of equal weight, So in Oppositon of this one sided article I should have right to express my self with equal amount of words OR simply don't publish these one sided articals publically

Doesn't the author know that people who take such decisions know all that he has said here? it's no use shouting infront of people who can hear but pretend not to.
