Every one is selfish.....Indian farmers are who is driving the economy and they always remains the backbone of indian economy. There is no gurantee if these companies or people like murthy will exists. This Infosys could be another Enron or Worldcom :-). Again, Farmers are great. "NO FARMER NO FOOD"...NO IT NO PROBLEM. You guys are crazy like Mr.Murty or DGowda. Get with your work....

No merit in Devegowda's remark?
by D.V.Ananthanarayana on Oct 22, 2005 11:20 PM

The remark of Devegowda was crude no doubt but the fact reamins that the software firms have done havoc to the peace loving people of Bangalore.
Why should all software firms set up their shops only in and aroud Bangalore? Will it not do good for the country if they earn foreign exchage, which they boast that they earn, if the same work is done in other places?
It is high time that govt stops enticing anyone and everyone to Come to this city only and set up their shops here. The infrastructure of Bangalore cannot take any more load and the new companies as well expansion of the existring ones should be in places other than Bangalore. This is panacea for Bangalore's survival.

Infosys's investments
by Vivek Nicholas on Oct 22, 2005 10:50 PM

This needs to be looked at in two different ways.

1) The govermnent has helped the companies in a big way by giving tax holidays and giving land when needed. The companies have made huge profits because of their hard work. But like Deve Gowda rightly pointed out, how much of the profits has been re-invested for development of Karnataka? The IT industries and other industries have forgotten their social responsibilities. In US and other economies, corporates do a lot of community work and reinvest a lot in the communities not directly through the goverment, but also through various NGO's and other groups. Starting one NGO or giving a small amount of name sake money to the community "cannot" be termed as re-investing significantly in the community. The corporates inculding Infosys should be more responsible and re-invest more in the land from which they have raked so much.

2)Now the political parties. How much has JD or any political party which raises this question done for Karnataka? The political parties were given charge to develop the state and all they have done is make money for themselves and Karnataka is still suffering. They need to clean up their backyard and then complain

What is HDG's point and why do the Karnataka people keeping quiet
by Vivek on Oct 22, 2005 07:58 PM

This latest tirade is nothing but inability to deal with criticisms on the lack of urban governance by the new Karnataka govt. A company puts the whole state on the IT map at least in perception, is your biggest brand ambassador and what you do is start hitting below its belt. Way to g HDG.

Message for Mr Gowda
by Well wisher of India on Oct 22, 2005 06:20 PM

Mr Gowda,

Please look before you leap and think before you speak....at least Infosys folks try hard to succeed; they do not SLEEP on the job. How about you - I remember seeing you on TV napping in all places - parliament, meeting and even public meetings. Please keep on sleeping as this would be good for India.

Well wisher of India

Infy's investments in Karnataka
by K. Raghunandan Rao on Oct 22, 2005 04:05 PM

Infosys is the pride of India. Karnataka has gained tremendously from their presence. Investments, employment, contribution to the economy, curb the brain drain and connected alround development- one can't imagine as to how much effort has gone into building this giant organisation.Mr. Narayan Murthy's and his other colleagues' vision has become a reality. Bangalore is on the World IT map today because of Infosys. You can't expect anything better. Several States in the country have benefited from Infosys. The country itself is earning enourmous foreign exchange. If politicians start interfering and create problem, it will be counter productive. There are other states inviting and waiting for Infosys to establish there.

The former PM could have better spoken to Mr.Narayan Murthy and clarified the matters before making press statements on the issue. It might boomerang and may cause damage to the state. Other IT giants also will start rethinking on their presence in Karnataka. I wish the CM would intervene & sort out amicably to remedy the situation that caused severe mental agony to the great visionary whose contribution to the Indian economy is very significant.
K.R.Rao,Chennai.
