Hi there,
Do you think 200000 agricultural families gave that land for free? and do you think they are still ploughing land? do you think IT has bought nothing? do you think only the rich have become richer through IT.Realize IT is brain power, whoever has brains he gets into it and gets a better living. All those farmers you are saying might have sons or daughters(atleast some of them) who are working in these MNC's. Knowledge is power. World keeps on changing. Do you want to go back to 19th century when the world is in 21st century. People are People they move on with their lives and realize what to do to stay successful(even those 20....)farmers. Grow up.

To Rediff People: I hope you post this message, (or as always trash it,hoping not)

Wake Up Priya Ji,

What poor are you talking about ???. Remmber its not IT that has created poor people. If not for this Revolution by Mr Murthy , you would have been sitting in a corner of an unlit house unable even to read a newspaper. Now you can even voice your opinion.

Its time politicians do something about creating jobs and stop blaming entreprenuers for their imaginary woes. Also somebody remarked that 400 acres of land would have robbed 20,000 farmer families...please get your statistics right and have a look at the places where Infy offices have been built before projecting Narayan Murthy as an anti-Robin hood !!

cost disproportationate to benefits

I wonder Mr. Murthy, if you are convinced with righteousness of your actions. You have acquired over 400 acres to provide jobs to some 20000 people. This means that at least 20000 agricultural families were displaced and had to sacrifice their land. Isnt it a little too skewed? And, we do recall that much of this land was acquired by threatening the earlier government to abandon Karnataka! Surely, you dont believe that you can rob the poor, to feed the rich in the IT age!

Priya,

I appreciate your concerns for the poor, but you need to undertand that Infosys is a commercial entity and not an NGO. Efficiency in Industries is measured not by working out the number employed, but the revenues and profit generated by each employee. As this is a public listed co., this translates into stakeholders wealth creation, and not just private wealth creation, as happens with privately held cos. Ask a shareholder who helds a Infy or Reliance share, and they will tell what difference these shares and companies make to their lives.
Murthy has done to India (and the cities where he operates) more than the combined politicians could have done for India. And mind you, this was all done in a transparent way. Now with the RTI Act, you may try to figues of what these politicians have done for their consitituencies. I guess you will appreciate that politicians are paid for this, whereas the enterpreneurs are paid for creating profits not for social work.

20000 people displaced for 400 acres? Have you ever visited a farm/village, let alone your own kitchen garden. You pseudo NGO types irritate me. Do you even understand economics?

Clearly your house must be a reason why a dozen poors are displaced, and I am sure Indian railways should shut down because they displace (by your calculation) about 200 crore people, and yes while you are at it, lets bring down Mumbai and grow some sugarcane in Cuffe Parade, right?

Article very clearly mentions what and where land was allocated to Infosys, mostly land PREDETERMINED by govt to be part of Software Technology Park, and most of it was acquired at fair market value.

That there are morons in this country that advocate tearing down Technology hubs for farming, makes me cry!

Why, lets also take away your computer as it consumes electricity that can be used to grow some cabbage, and is being used right now on wasteful things like educating you.

INFOSYS & DEVE GOWDA
by pharmaexpert on Oct 22, 2005 09:27 AM

During his brief stint as the prime minister, HD Deve Gowda mostly slept and woke up once in a while to make some stupid statements. He was seen sleeping in public meetings also.

He is advised to go back to his favourite hobby and not talk about things which are beyond him. Has he been "inspired" by some MNC to speak against INFOSYS

Not Since Gautam Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, has any individual made an Indian feel so proud and important like Narayan Murthy and Aziz Premji have done.
Go back to your slumber, DEVE Gowda. The young generation will not spare you. This is a wrong platform to you. Please talk to the likes of George Fernandes, Harekrishna Surjeet, etc.

It saddens every indian way in which people like deve gowda has got the guts to cast aspertions on men like murthy who with sheer enterprise and with no help from these political mongrels got india into the world map of information technology.Any foriegn leader visiting india make it a point to visit banglore not because of deve gowda and ilks but because of asim and murthy. What this snore has done for banglore and india.Gowda was a personification of eternal snooze that manifested in our political oppertunists.Kannadigas should kick these political looters out of there seat and show the way to such useless politician who was a laughing stock for having slept throughout his carrear as PM by default in delhi. The way in which these politicians sabotage the bangalore airport project first when tata left and now murthy left shows that unless you greese not only their hand but the entire body the political valtures will go to any extend to defame such selfless soul like murthy.god is great our nation is great our culture is great we shall overcome these mongrels, carry on the good work murthy for you are our ICON, our hope, our future, face of emerging Hindustan.Don't loose heart READ GITA

What has happened to These people in their kingdom. Even so called EX PM has to undergo the same thing for him and to his family. None of their family deserves any thing on the earth let alone in Bangalore/Karnataka/India/entire world

He and his entire troop will be useless and fit for nothing on the earth/or in any planet.

How much land and building petrol bunk he is having let him give the statement like MR.NR has given about land building and number of people he has employed. How many benami property in around Padmanabha Nagar and entire karnataka let him write and sent to Dharmasthala Manjunatha Hegde for verfication. See the result.

What Infosys has invested in building India'simage abroad
by Margie Sastry on Oct 22, 2005 06:29 AM

Three little words that are music to our ears

INDIA, COMPUTER, BEST. These three little words are what make this a great time to be an Indian abroad. Although the Indian population in Shanghai is quite small, the feedback you get once you are recognised as indu is really heart-warming. Despite the humungous language barrier, the local people manage to communicate their opinion about India in the most amazing way.

From the super amazing cab drivers of Shanghais to the guide in Suzhou silk factory museum, the same mime is repeated. Their fingers fly over imaginary keyboards; they tap their forehead in a universal sign language of intelligence and they say just three little words. India,Computer, Best. When this happened again and again, in the few weeks of our stay in China, my husband exclaimed Narayan Murty aur Azmi ko sashtanga pranam karma chahiye hame

After travelling abroad for several years as a business executive, this spontaneous feedback on India is especially relevant for him. As someone obsessed with promoting all things Indian, I agree wholeheartedly. Yes indeed we should kowtow to the two greats who have made India and IT become synonymous in the global context.

Both the IT is a great industries and reams have been written about its financial success. But what is so wonderful is the trickle down effect of the great effort on the ordinary Indian like us, who can share the warmth of the great global glow they have created.

What the IT giants have invested in building the image of India abroad, may not be measurable but every Indian can reap the benefit of the goodwill they have created for India.

Infy
by mathew thomas on Oct 22, 2005 06:27 AM

I think for a politician to point a finger at Infy is akin to point a finger at a Tech Gandhi if I may say so. It is one of the few companies that have observed the highest ethics in the workplace. Its accounting standards are impeccable and worth being emulated by others that include politicians themselves.

Infy is the modern avatar of Tech "Gandhi".
