work in a noreliable call centers
by veera on Sep 16, 2004 08:03 AM

In today's world working in call centers is been prefered as apart people are not seeing their future or health value which is most important and which deserves a lot from a highly paid salaries, so people should also think and concern over it ,because it is a slow poision for a health which they should be very keen off.

BPO - west wins every time
by N.S Parameswaran on Sep 16, 2004 07:44 AM

As usual the white man has won. During the colonial period he had physical control over us (literally on our country and the people). They looted, pillaged, massacered, plundered etc. Using this wealth and salve labor they attained high standard of living and became developed.
Now when they have no physical control, they have used their economic clout to lord over us again - BPO / Outsourcing is the new mantra. All menial / routine / repetitive drudgery oriented work (physical / mental ) has been outsourced to the colored world. China has become the sweat shop of the world for manufacturing and India has become the sweat shop for mental work.
The west is laughing its way to happiness at our cost

But Who's ready to give a Job!
by CLN on Sep 16, 2004 07:40 AM

I accept what You say .., but today BPO is the boon to the youth who are starved of an employment..for instance.how many manufacturing companies are there in India that provide a decent salary and work... or what the hell the steps have been take to provide jobs to lakhs of Engineers comming out collge every Year..If the correct measures are taken there is huge requirement of Engineers work in a devloping country like India...

k and there is no use in speaking all about that...

the poin i'm trying to nail in is this

BPO has offered a good solution for the unemployment and all u ppl who say do not lose u'r self respect for pepsi and cokes do keep in mind we get paid for not losing respect instead Lots of Americans are happy with the service they recieve from india and respect us for the service we provide through these call centres and we lose self respect only in Indian companies today(I have many to Quote)...

Work in a BPO
by Shitij Yadav on Sep 16, 2004 07:23 AM

Well, i agree that most of what has been written is true in every sense but we should also consider some facts before going all out against the BPO industry.

I've worked in the Customer services of a leading Indian Telecom service provider company for the past 2 1/2 years, where the my normal working hours went up to 11 hours daily on an average & the compensation was very low as compared to the BPO ind. & with no provision for the extra hours put in. I was contributing to the Indian economy but at what cost?

Compare that to the job that BPO has provided me. I'm able to spend some time entirely upon myself due to the fixed working hours no matter at what time of the day !

Secondly, the money which I'm bringing into India is much more than the Value Addition/Generation that I was able to do for an Indian Co. even after slogging for almost 12 hours a day !

I agree to the health hazards being faced by the people employed in this industry but don't the people working in Indian Companies for 10-12 hours daily suffer from ailments or health hazards? Add to that the quality time that they are able to devote to their families.

The ball is in your court to decide ............

Call Center
by krk on Sep 16, 2004 07:20 AM

its true. money has made the youngsters blind. i too worked briefly for a call center in sydney. but u are wlecome to call it a day if u dont feel like working. u need not work if u feel u cant work. all they want is a good/fair job done as long as ur at work. if that does not seem to be the case in india (as the author points out of 12hr contionuous shifts) its pathetic. call centers can certainly adjust, employ more poeple, pay hourly instead of monthly and keep going!!!

Who is the author of such an article that makes no -sense?????.The author is not at all educated on the subject and has not done his/her home work before putting an article like this.I am even more suprised that articles like these are published at a reputed site.

It shows on the credibility of both the author and the person who has approved such a stupid article to be published

WORK in BPO unit beaware
by sss on Sep 16, 2004 06:25 AM

Ya ,

Observations of author are 100% right. We are not adding any value to the society or nation by this.

Someone raised the concern of employment. But employment would be there with the same BPO kind of jobs .But stricter controls are required. BPO shops and even in IT industry ,no management bothers about the working hours and unhygienic working style.

If we have stricter controls on this ,everybodys life will be easier and additionally more and more youths will be employed in this job market.

BPO - economic slavery
by krishna mohan on Sep 16, 2004 05:43 AM

what indians posess after 50+ yrs of independence is nothing but greed for money take it gulf factor or the high profile IT slavery. every one wants to become rich with an 'academic degree' - there are many shortcuts - just choose the one which gives u food right now - for eg. comp science. do u know why indians are preferred over other nationals - first they are good at basic english skills - next they are good 'work horses'-something which cant be seen with US people; also the labour is very cheap. Americans are very good at management and we are very good at work. this is a sheer economic exploitation. According to some statistic -a major share of XEROX company employees are indians or take NASA- almost 36% of them are indians.dont u think brain drain is a blow to the country ?

Also abt culture- its easy to accustom a culture which has no bounds -like american culture. but its tough to follow indian coz its embedded with values since thousands of years. do u know that there is a great demand for yoga schools in america - they recognise our ancient science - but we recongnise - aerobics -thats the state of india today;
