50% of Indian engineers LACK basic ENGLISH skills!

Not only in English they fail in regional languages also. First of all Govt. should ban the bogus colleges. In most of the colleges no professors, no lecturers but they are getting permission to run college by giving bribes. One Professor/Lecturer works in no.of colleges morning one college and evening one college. If you check up the credentials you will come to know all these details. Even AICTE inspecting team were caught many times. Streamline the system first then you get good results. Mass copying is arranged by colleges itself to get good name.

They fail both in regional language and also english. When compared to boys girls are faring well. The boys move around the girls and waste their time roaming with motor bike and cellphones. Those students who do not have mobile, motor bike, TV will fare better and parents should discourage in giving these facilities to them.

Why English for ENGINNEERS
by Deepak on Jul 24, 2012 04:31 PM  | Hide replies

I do not understand why so much stress on learning English in India when majority of it's residents are going to stay in India itself ? There are only 6 well-known countries which speak English in the world such as: England, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia. No other DEVELOPED country in the world except these teach their ENGINEERS AND DOCTORS in ENGLISH.

Please note that ENGLISH is language of LOOTERS (Britishers) and similarly majority of words have no relation at all. There is no set rules, no clear defined understanding.

I bet and am willing to take the challenge that the Individual who speaks English doesn't know what he is speaking, the individual who listens doesn't understand much either. The individual who reads has to keep a Thesaurus/Dictionary to understand what someone has written. ENGLISH IS JUST USED TO IMPRESS EACH OTHER THAT THEY ARE INTELLIGENT AND SMART. That's it. Even tough LANGUAGE is not at all CONNECTED to SMARTNESS or, INTELLIGENCE.

THE SMART INTELLIGENT ENGINEERS, SCIENTISTS in the world are from JAPAN, GERMANY, RUSSIA, CHINA who speak and learn education in their native languages.

The Government in Power is FORCING people to use ENGLISH everywhere so that the DEVELOPED English speaking countries can get CHEAP LABOURERS who cannot THINK much. AND these DUFFERS (English Speaking) can help INDIA to be LOOTED easily for these countries to remain powerful.

THAT's the REASON for ALL THE HYPE FOR ENGLISH in INDIA for EDUCATION.

Indian engineers and English language

Though it is true that Indian engineers are not having
good English comprehension skills they are not entirely responsible. It has been observed since last 15 to 20 years schools are not giving enough emphasis
on importance of grammer in teaching languages in general. As a result we notice that younge generation
speaks and writes gramatically incorect languages.

Fact is, course schedule in engineering colleges is too tight to introduce English communication classes to an extent where it can actually make any significant difference. Where as in business schools even the preparation course is entirely in English with focus on vocab and comprehension, so the selected students are already well versed with the subject and communication classes are only meant to remove their hesitance and build confidence.

problem is these kind of complaints against english is done by only people from hindi belt. sorry but i meant no offence. people from south generally recognize the global importance of english and they do well in software and other technology sectors. problem is people from small towns in UP, Haryana, Punjab and Bihar rarely understand the importance of English.

Engg. English

I have a case in point. We had to hire a B.Tech guy in ICT, much against the wishes for many of the Interview committee members. He lacked English skills, but was proved to be the best among the lot. He has developed a wonderful ERP programme for the organization and our computer centre people are not in a position to understand fully. We have now appointed a separate guy to manage this. This guy was a UP fellow from famous BITS, Pilani

But finally we all can undestand what french guy trying to say with much of translation beacuse what he is talking was technical! not language.
