Don't know whether this will help you, or if at all you have the devise with you now. But there is a way to flash the ROM in a Android devise. You can know the procedure from techtree or anyother such website. Just google. I tried this in a china made cheap 7" slate running on Android 2.2 when it went completely dead, and it worked with all features and new look with updated OS build. You may just give it a try..

I guess one is supposed to charge it for 8 hours before first time use. many people do noy read manual properly.
