It might be true that major faculty of IIT / IIM are not world class. But the prime reason behind that is - people in education / teching are not well paid. So charismatic minds do not come for teaching. Then how can you expect to have world class faculty at our educational institutes. But there is exception to everything. So is here also. Some faculty are world class.
i agree with jairam ramesh , what said is pretty true.
it is not the faculty but the students who are extraorinary ( and why not they are thebest brainy guys in the country distilled by IIT JEE exam).
put these prof and teachers in an ordinary engg college and u wud get dud results. i have dealt with so many IIT profs in my life, they are bunch of arrogant heads who think they are the best. the quality is absolutely pathethic.
I totally agree with Prof.V.Ramgopal Rao views. People like Jairam Ramesh and Kapil Sibbal only talks crap and they are not having any backing of any data. It is government's problem who have not adequately increased substantial funding for research and development in IIT's.
Kapil Sibbal and people like Jairam Ramesh are more interested in privatising educational institutions and for that reason they give such sweeping statements.
We also want World Class Leaders but ironically we have looters than leaders to lead!

Boss
i dont agree with this. What jairam ramesh said is pretty true.

Jairam Ramesh, no doubt, is one of the most shrewd and witty politician of India. He is also one of the sharpest brains among the top politicians of the country. But, this has gone over his head. He thinks that nobody is as capable as he is. The minister, by saying that "IIT faculties are not world-class", actually wants to say that the faculties who taught him at IIT were not world class! I hope the Minister would agree with me.
His perception has also got negatively influenced over the years, hence, he treats others as useless. It takes no extraordinary brains to gauge that an Institution can not flourish with out exceptional faculties. Does he want to say that the faculties of Oxford are not world class but students are! Perhaps he will not dare make such a statement because of the simple reason that most of the Indians suffer with inferiority complex vis a vis foreigners. They are diseased with a phobia that India does not have worthy people, only the foreigners (most appropriately the whites) hold patent over being "world-class"! Not only he, the HRD minister of the country too suffer from same phobia thats why he has indirectly declared Indian teachers and professors as useless and intends to fill Indian Universities with the faculties from US and UK. And, he will do so easily because for Indians a second or third grade brain with white skin is worth 100 times more than a Prof Yashpal or Prof Dinesh Singh or the facul

Shri Jairam Ramesh is partly true. Even the worldclass students who are said to be the cream of the cream coming out every year are not joining the teaching profession which is gradually creating a void in the pool of great faculty. That might be the reason for this gap.
The minister should first comment on how much the Govt is spending on research and how much they are paying the research faculty before commenting on the quality of the institutions.
