As Sibal said 25% professor's are same institute pass outs.. they will only deliver what they have been tought, Issue is culture of research/invention is missing in India...we still follow Britishers education policy of producing very good clerks....3 idiots movies was spot on this fact, Our IT industry so big..they only give solutions on platforms provided by west...any new IT language/platform/engine etc designed by any Indian's what about IIT's...Chines attack our cyber world frequently were r Indian IT industry master minds????
It would have been better if the faculty of IIT/IIMs and Govt. of India took Ramesh's comment in a positive way,rather than lashing at him.No Indian institute is in top World top 100 but claiming otherwise is same as declaring your child topper even though he/she didn't appear for the exam.Why such institutions don't introspect or shout when they are rated by global agencies.Now,an alumni says a truth,You will make him feel that he is not living in a democracy. These are reputed institution,no doubt,but please accept this,not world class.It is because of faculty,research or infrastructure,it can be decided by going through ratings given by global agencies.

Ramesh was partly right n partly he missed the point...vast yes Professors r not world class..so is the mindset for research n invocation for making something new...Now did u ever check out the research finance cost budgets these "world class" university have...Its 1000 to 10000times more...have u heard indian businessmen n millioners donate funds to IIT/IIM/AIMS for research, Last i heard TATA donate in UK, did we not have people here...Point is our mindset in e education needs to change from producing clerks e
How many heads of IIT/IIM departments can becomne deans/department heads in a premier University in USA/UK ?? HOw many are regarded as authorities in their field by their peers worldwide? That would be a good test. I have no idea as I dont live in India.

well do for a moment think that education industry is without biased n reservation of cast ethnicity....they(gor.a's) still follow the old rule... all other than them can be very good clerks n managers
I feel that most of the teacher are same. Majority have never worked in practical working life. Most of them are not aware of of ground reality. They only have bookish knowledge, what ever they had learned. I do regards to my teachers, but this is the fact. We have improve our education system ( Only shown in Movie like Three idiots . We have to implement it.
I fully agree with Jairam Ramesh. The faculties are like any other faculties in other colleges. The only difference is that these guys are slightly more paid than the normal faculties. Knowledge wise they are no different. They have never created a product or done some research in their life. They teach what they have learnt in the books. They do not have the knowledge outside the box. I would rate them 3 on a rating of 1/5 1, being the best.

The pay parity in Industry and Education is so wide in India, there are very few takers to take a teaching job. In one of the posts I posed a question, when a GET or MT is paid an average stipend of Rs.12 lakhs per year on passout, what does our IIT professor get ? It is understandable, with no responses, they have to be peanuts. So, when we pay peanuts, we get monkeys. Why crib ?

According to your logic if you have to deliver you need pressure and higher education/teaching than the current position. Dude understand first that scientific ideas germinate in a freely thinking mind and not in the one which is pressurized to deliver or take too many classes. You need machines to deliver not minds.
You mean to say the profs of MIT, which is indecently the top most university is trained from some other institute of higher learning, where is it in heaven!

u logic is incorrect.
those MT who get paid 12lacs (including me some years back, i have moved up in the chain) are made to work for that 12 lacs. they spend hours in office day and night even at home , hooked to BB always with a constant target pressure. if u dont deliver you get sacked. that is the truth of that 12 lacs unlike profs in IIT living in big bunglows in delhi/ mumbai etc ( even the rent alone would be 1 lacs per month of such bunglows) who teach 3 hrs a day and are having secured job. in addition they make huge money as consultancy (iit tag gets them this). life is much much tough outside of these IIT campus.
i dont know why mr ramesh is trying to divide students and faculty at the IIT. Why dont you take IIT as a whole. They are world class means they are world class as a whole, not being selective. Whenever you give a statement try to back it up with a relevant research done. has anyone done any research on this??
World class students cannot excel if they won't receive world class training. I don't know from where he got his ranking data. IIT's are basically undergraduate Engineering institutions and should be compared with Engineering technology universities and not with Life science or Humanities. If you give a google search for top engineering colleges of world you will get data which clearly shows that MOST of the IITS, IISC and even Delhi University within the top 200!
I have studied in a normal college in Kerala, at Calcutta University and at IIT Bombay and I am sure I have seen the best faculties in IITB.
We cannot expect much from a person who told that the chemical waste kept in union carbide compound in Bhopal is not toxic as he is able to touch it and still alive!
