By electing Ms Meera Kumar as the next Lok Sabha Speaker, the Congress may score a few political points. But that will not take the party forward, if it does not match their symbolic gestures with credible action to improve the lot of the Dalits who are still ill treated in the rural areas of India. I think it is important to ensure propotionate representation of all communities - not only Dalits - is a must in a country like India where Caste and creed continues to play an important role in socio-political matters. It is also equally important for the Dalit leadership to shed its misplaced anti-high Caste mentality in order to move ahead in progress and development.

Look, For how long are the politicioans going to play "CASTE/RELEGION/STATE CARD"!!! It's high time to interospect!!..wE GOT INDEPENDENCE IN 1947..Formed reservation policies to uplift the backwards..the result is, a wide gap between the rich and the poor irrespective of caste , relegion and region. Our power hungry politicians are following the footstep of devide and rule - The same that was used by the Britishers. Let us all come up and ask these power hungry people to formulate a policy to uplift the poor & Backward irrespective of Caste, relegion and region and usher India to a Better Future.
This is another example of the support for dynasty politics by Congress. Going by such examples (Rahul Gandhi, Sachin Pilot, Abdullah dynasty, Naveen Jindal, Jitin Prasad, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Dayanadhi Maran, Azhagiri etc) very soon there will be no place for a person not coming from a political dynasty. Unfortunately such politics of dynasty also has full support of media personnels like Prannoy Roy, Burkha Dutt, Rajdeep Sardesai. Vir Sanghvi in his article "poltics of inheritance" while criticisng such politics ends up paying homage to the biggest political dynasty and its present representative Rahul Gandhi. Such is the power of Politics of Inheritance

To shun dynasty politics, every 5 years India must elect a NEW Prime Minister. * If I were the Prime Minister of India, I would AMEND constitution accordingly.

Dear friend Dynasty of Politics is applicable to each and every party in India and not only in Congress or DMK.But one thing is clear dynasty only will not give success.Naveen Patnaik led his party into victory for the 3rd successive term which his father couldn't achive. It's Rahul's commitment and hardwork got its dividend in states like UP and not his dynasty.Other youngsters in ''Rahul's'team'' also able to get acceptance of public.Actually it is difficult to retain the name of a wellknown leader and is a big challenge for a son/daughter to keep going.May be for the first time they can win with father's name but next time onwards they can't repeat success simply sitting in their seat.

it is not the hard work of general secretary, it is vote bank shift lead to dividends.
Earlier also we have had SC/dalit speaker late Mr.Balayogi, what happend to SC/ST/BCs progress? These downtrodden people were there where they were earlier inspite of political parties tom toming about making dalits/ minorities speaker/president. There is no point in making a big issue out of it when only the particular SC/ST/BC/Minority MP becoming speaker or a minister. The results/development should percolate down. In Indian case it is not happening.I found Meira Kumar elevation as a convenience and a chance to accommodate sulking Mr.Jena minister in UPA from Orissa and it is nothing to do with Cong-I love for SC/ST/BC/minorities welfare and empowerment. If Cong-I is really interested in empowerment let them offer PM gaddi to one of its SC/ ST/ BC/ minorities Memeber of parliament.Do the Cong-I high command has guts ????
by selecting meera kumar cngress is sending strong signal that it cares for dalits. they will certain;y look into the issues of reservation in private sector.

Najma Heptullah is really very very unfortunate to leave the party a long ago otherwise with this much of experience, she would have been a president of India rather than puppet patil...........

Why all these pointing finger at Xtians for all the ills of the majority Hindus. If COngress has come to power it is with the votes of 80% Hindus of India, leave the Pope to do his work and Italy to itself. Let us learn to look after our affairs well. Or better learn something from others who do things better than us - Italy, or America or for that matter any country

Not many in India know that Manmohan singh is the prime minister. If you conduct a quiz, you will get an answer that antonia maino (sonia)is the prime minister. In fact, after election, sonia gandhi introduced manmohan to the press reporters. Sonia still has dual citizenship

she won marginally from there this time because she is daughter of late Vice PM Jagjivan ram. nothing else ...
Though A.P. sent many congress MP's in the parliment.. none seems to be in Ministerial cadre... Our symphathy are with AP voters... But guys, keep on voting, congress, one day or the other you will be blessed with many ministerial posts. Good Luck.
India is a nation of angry people . People are angry for various reasons of injustice to their own community , under representation of community , jealousy over happiness of rivals ... People also cast their vote in anger with logical reasoning inhibited by anger
Re: Angry nation
by Bharatiya on May 31, 2009 12:45 PM
1. Anger is sign of interest in something. At least it is better than apathy.
2. I believe, Indians don't get angry enough with the system. Had they been, our system would have changed by now and we would have had Govts that actually work.
