Renu, why do write her a Dalit. R U not again raising the issue of caste system? Well, let us not do this.
You must give educational background - An IFS who had held number of positions.

Exactly.
Casteism and Reservations will prevail in India **till** 85% of all registered marriages are inter-caste.

H!ndu!sm is nothing but a covert mask for Casteism which intrinsically seeds HATRED in your Children.
H!ndu!sm is a hierarchical based irrational system of keeping one CASTE (Brahmins?) over everyone else.

In America there is no system in place today that forces people to remain separate or keeps one class subservient to another.
If you were born the son of a street sweeper, but excelled, you could become a doctor or lawyer or some celebrity or entrepreneur - and at the same time you would be fully accepted by your peers.

Not so in India. The caste system freezes everyone in place. It is extremely difficult - almost impossible - for someone from the lowest caste to rise in education and social status.

A Dalit would never be allowed to marry into one of the higher castes and would never be accepted as an equal.
And for a Dalit to make it into MEDICAL school or opening a RESTAURANT or become a PRIEST in a temple or become a member of high SOCIETY in India is very rare indeed.
Only by escaping from the grasp of H!ndu!sm do they have much of a chance.

Indian Government is racist but wants people to behave as Indians! What an irony! Unless we put an end to the caste system and the reservations, we can never progress to our potential. Anyway these reservations are abused by the rich and influential and nevers serves the purpose for which it was started by Dr. Ambedkar.

Gopalan & Tornado, why did you guys abused Raj? Did he offend something or someone? He is simply asking honestly should the work DALIT be redefined as originally they were perceived to be socially and economically downtrodden and incapable to having a "normal" life.
In you two guys opinion, is it really the case with Meira Kumar? Is she really a DALIT in real sense? or simply out there to "use" the dalit-tag to her advantage.

Be honest with yourself and sensible to comment something wrong / immoral stuffs about others.

At leastr, she will not be like Somnath Cheater-Jee (Iwho had done so many thinghs out of the waty yto keep the Party in Power despite his own Party's disapproval) but be impartial and dpendable by the Opp Parties for
patiently listening to them and doing what a Speaker of LS should do,as in early 60s/70s when her father Jagjiwan Ram was alive.

Meera Kumar a Dalit?
by Choudhary Narayan on May 31, 2009 05:50 AM  | Hide replies

It is an irony that we call Meera Kumar a Dalit who was born with a silver spoon, privileged right since birth, her father was a Union Minister or MP at the time of her birth. No doubt she deserves to be in the chair. Bit, if she is a Dalit, no one India can claim to be privileged. God save our country.

It is obvious that the Hindu Religion has a lot to answer for in India in terms of historical wrongs that have been perpetrated. The fact that educated persons - politicians and bureaucrats included - think it fit to point to the birth circumstances in terms of the caste that the parents belong to goes to show that discrimination is very much alive in the minds of Indians.

JRAM's daughter socially has surpassed Brahmins. Being Educated, empowered, rich and smart that word should not be used. Like in USA certain word should not be used. That word has cettain connotations and Meera Kumari does not belong there.
