Dear Swetambar:

Do not forget we get the leaders we DESERVE!!!! We do not deserve anything better than these folks. Send them a message by not voting or make 49(0) an option avavilable to people. VOTING FOR NONE OF THE ABOVE will be the right message or you will continue to get the Laloos, Nirupams, Paswans, Kalyan Singhs, Amar Singhs, Mulayam Singhs and so on.

Politicians are the same everywhere
by Guest on May 11, 2009 02:36 AM

I feel you guys kind of, talking about India and good governance and I am not surprised that similar events are occurring in other nations of the world, those who have acquired a higher degree of mobility in the developmental quest, as well as those regions aspiring to arrive at the position where these leading countries have attained. This is including my Nigeria, here, the politicians have been involved in the underdevelopment of the society by their capture of the apparatus of the state. Basic amenities are lacking and infrastructure is decaying where they had once existed, decades ago. Oil wealth is floundered and corruption is at a height unheralded in the nations history. With health and education standards rapidly declining, the hope for an enlightened society that can demand for change and fundamental human rights becomes dim, as even many law enforcement officials do not understand the principles guiding the "Universal Declaration Of Human Rights". The situation is looking really bleak, the state is unconscious of it's functions and thus cannot mobilise neccessary and sufficient capabilities. The "Millennium Development Goals" means more foreign aid to be shared amongst themselves and it's no news that we cannot met these goals. India who along with China and the Asian Tigers had held us all (in the third world) in awe still has a sizeable population that exists beyond the fringes of a developing society and someone need to call these politicians to order, anyone...

is a flawed democracy. The best we can hope for is some sort of compromise where people tolerate each other.

Tamil Nadu

Sub-Regional parties have become stronger and growing by the day and are calling shots...even at National Level. PMK wants Vanniyar Nadu - for their 20% Population. Similarly one another party has croopped up and expected to garner millions of votes...that party is Kongu Nadu Munnetra Kazhagam...they want a separate Kongu Nadu for their 20% Gounder population. Deep down South near Kanniyakumari, Nagercoil, etc, rampant conversion of Hindus to Christians are happening. Once the Christian population grows to substantial numbers, they might demand a Christian State carved out...Is the media awake to these things...Rediff should report this prominently...and gain mileage.
