The positives of having regional parties far outweigh the negatives. So they will thrive in the times to come. But this needs to be understood by the central parties and they should rework their strategies accordingly. Take it from me..Regional Parties are here to stay.

it is indeed nice to read the write up by seema, congrats.but my is bit differant please read & think over in thorough patriotism.
the problem in our country in last decade is i think is masses have not understood what is politics?
i define politics as policy making in good interest of citizens.time proves weather policy was good or bad.but there's no scope for faults more than one.
problem today is world is facing bigger challenges in every field.so we require the competant persons to lead us.
mushrooming of regional & new natioal parties in last few years?has it happened alone by peoples drive?i think money & more selfish motives gave rise to them.
now after this general elections if at all india has to move forword on all fronts it has to be with stable government from one party.
now sonia factor?
she didn't chose politics on her own,if you remember she was persuaded to take charge of congress.she is sucessfull to revive & bring discipline in her party.
dr.manmohan singh is well qualified,performing,non-tainted,unselfish decent person to lead us. monteksingh ahulwalia, sam pitroda,p.chidambaram, pranab mukhargee, shashi tharoor, mani shankar aiyer, murli deora, praful patel are real performers & i am positive on jyotirmaditya, milind deora, sachin pilot, jindal navin, gulam nabi azad, farooq abdulla.would you like to miss on the services of these guys?
today i'm missing mr.devang mehta,he wanted to take up as education minister.lalu prasad is another sucessful campain.nxttime

There's no way that u can throw away the regional parties.. Infact in many important states the central partiees have no base at all.. so they have to stoop and fall on their knees to elicit the regional partie's support. eg..UP, Bihar,WB,Orissa,AP,TN.....

Seema Misses The Point.
by Anand on Mar 24, 2009 10:44 AM  | Hide replies

This article misses the basic reason for the existence of Regional Parties: to represent that particular region, which, in turn, means linguistic group, Tamil, Marathi, Oriya, whichever.

An ideal regional party encompasses all religions, and is language-based, as it should be. Because, in the absence of such a cause, all languages other than Hindi will be subordinated and subjugated by the majority North. And, this will translate into economic and political domination by the North too.

And, being proud of your region and language is NOT anti-Indian!

Well.....I dont think there's anything wrong abt Hindi getting more importance thn other languages in India....After all this is "Hindustan" and Hindi is our national language....

That said, everyone has right to use and feel proud of their own language....

But main issue is, many non-Hindi ppl in southern regions of India, feel its fine to learn and converse in English, which is foreign language.....but they look down on Hindi and Hindi-speaking ppl.....

Now thats wats bad......a language is just a means of communication.....and if there's one language which at least everyone in the country knows, thn tht cn unite the country.....

And I guess the language to unite country cn be Hindi, if it cn be English....

Ruchi..i don't subscribe to your views. If a language alone can unite us , then we could have never stayed as one country for this long. There's also a misconception in the minds of people that those who don't accept Hindi are anti nationals and only Hindi speaking states contribute to the growth of the nation....Let me hit the nail on the head...the non-Hindi speaking states are contributing to the nation's overall development much more than the Hindi speaking states. see the industrail development, social development, export performance etc...the minority non-Hindi speaking regions contribute much more than the Majority Hindi speaking states.....It is time to think whether u want these gems too to lose lusture by accepting Hindi

Seema's logic
by Sankara Narayanan on Mar 24, 2009 10:36 AM

the underlying message seems to be this - if congress and BJP can loot and spoil the country, so can a mayawati! the problem that many like me have with mayawati or a karunanidhi is not that they are not like "Us". rather , that we already have cancerous parties in the form of the established ones and we do not want more to be added to the list! a cancer of a different kind and a potentially more dangerous one. Thats All.

Good article - the third party has a right to exist
by tamil boy on Mar 24, 2009 10:19 AM

Good article - the third party has a right to exist without being ignored or be bufoon at.
Rememeber us abroad in our own history 30 yaers ago- were being being ignored or be bufoon at abroad.
BJP is not a violent or an intolerant party. Anyboby in the BJP can aspire to get to the top, juts like Maya did.
Congress on the other hand is made up of North Indian elites with paid imbeciles from other states. Nobody can aspire to move to the top.
Congress on the other hand has Tamil blood on it hands- and the sole reason is that the North Indian elite look down on us Tamils- and the lives of Tamils or for the matter of fact anybody who disagree with this North Indian elite.
The rule of this North Indian elite from their glass tower has to end- otherwise this glass tower will be stoned sooner rather than later.

PLEASE ban such drivel on rediff.... seema i can understand you get your bread and butter by sucking up to SCUM like mayawati - who by the way should be locked up in an asylum but do you honestly believe that anyone with even a speck of intelligence will agree to be in the same room as mayawati let alone vote for her. Go and take a look in uttar pradesh where mayawati gets an engineer killed just because he wont contribute to her birthday fund. I think yellow journalists like seema mustafa are the first ones that should be locked up .. rediff stop publishing work from such SCUM
