good friday not a holiday in gujarat
by nick on Apr 08, 2004 05:08 AM

It is very much obvious why the gujarat government has not declared good friday a holiday.Iam not here to dwell on that.I sincerely request the christian community in gujarat, in the true sense of Christ our lord ,to forgive the person behind this decision and stop resorting to strikes and getting back to work. What more message can we give to our country and the people on the holy week than pardoning those who have sinned and asking God's blessing on them.On this joyful ocassion of the resurrection of Christ let we, the people of India live in peace.Iam sure Christ would have endorsed all that I have written here.

From when onwards is a sectarian religious holiday a constitutional rights? I live in USA and Muslims make up more than 2% and Hindus make up 1% of population and none of their festivals are religious holidays. Did I forget to mention the govt. of India has not declared wiccan(religion of witches) festivals a national holiday? Will the nuts in India fight for their holidays? If yes then where will this idiocy end?

Govt. of India should give people floating holidays and let people decide when they wish to take them. If people are given 10 holidays then they should be able to use it anytime in a year. This way it does not offend anyone. Even wiccans can celebrate their festivals.

I dont understand when will the indian politician start thinking by coming out of jinx of this dirty politics. I am sure that it is political move for upcoming elections. Now there is going to be lot of protests and probably strikes throughout country, dont we think that it is shear wastage of money and other resources and these kind of dirty politics result in bad name of country and definitely loss to country economy.

Good Friday

Employees should be given an option of taking that day off, and working on any other holiday.

Good Friday not a holiday in US either!
by Toban on Apr 08, 2004 02:37 AM

I would like to bring to your notice that Good Friday is not a holiday in most of the states in US! I am a Christian, but I think it is time we stopped the numerous holidays in India, and limit the number of holidays. If we do not increase our productivity, only we will suffer.

Good Friday is not a holiday in the United States
by ravi on Apr 08, 2004 01:46 AM

The United States - an overwhelmingly Christian nation-

does not list Good Friday as an official holiday. Easter is

celebrated widely, however.

I wonder how the Indian christian community plans to

protest this oppression of their religious freedom in a

christian nation...

Time to change
by Robby on Apr 08, 2004 01:43 AM

However painful it might feel (especially if you are a Christian) i really think it is time we revisit holidays. Declaring a day off when only about 3% of population are going to benefit directly sounds awfully illogical by any other standards. I think Good Friday should be a restricted holiday (just like it is over here -US- with vast majority of Christians people still don't complain). This should apply to all holidays unless a majority of population are affected directly

Holiday on Good Friday
by Rajagopalan, DFW, TX, USA on Apr 08, 2004 01:41 AM

Apr 7, 2004

Dear Sirs of Christian Commnity,

I am in US, where everyone and the Country is Christian, the Country is almost closed for XMas to New Year"s day following Christian Custom and even in US we do not have holiday on Good Friday. So what are these people trying to prove. Why we should declare holiday on Good Friday in Gujarath or in India? We have enough Hindu Festivals which are not declared as Holidays. Christians should be happy that Sunday is declared as weekly Holiday, because the Britishers ruled India. Otherwise, India should have weekly holiday on Saturday, just as Gulf Countries have weekly holiday on Friday. It will also match with Western weekly holiday of Saturday & Sunday. By this we can catchup with the Westerns also ahead.
