Blame
by Yogesh Hasabnis on Jan 24, 2013 08:22 PM

Is team-building not a responsibility of a captain ? Was the captain not aware that the so-called match-winners that Mr. Boycott has mentioned are going to retire one day ?? Does the captain not have any say in team selection and if he has a say then why did the captain not use this influence in searching and selecting the right talent all these days ?? Was he not good enough to even know that some of the older team-mates are either not going to be around or going to lose their form ? Was he not good enough to judge that his team is deteriorating in many areas and he needs to plan something to fill those gaps ? With all the influence that the current captain has why couldn't he use that influence to find the right talent in this nation of one billion-plus ? Shouldn't the captain not be blamed for lack of foresight ?? It's not necessary that only because Mr. Boycott has made some statement, it has to be accepted to be entirely correct.

Boycot's comment
by on Jan 24, 2013 06:45 PM  | Hide replies

Boycot is very much right in his comments about Dhoni's captaincy.Team India today is without class players. With Laxman& Dravid retiring,Tendulkar on the verge of retiring,it lacks class players.Shewag & Gambir are on the way out.It is winning because of captaincy of Dhoni.R.Ranganathan

It is winning because umpires are purchased by BCCI.

Waht a hypocrites double standatred fans.
Winning beacuse of captaincy & loss beacuse of players.
This type of political menatlity of dhoni fans kill cricket/sports in country.
If win is because of captaincy, them all loss also because captaincy.
Fact is in last 2 yrs we have lost more matches than won agiant good teams in all format of game.
Fact is even when we eere winning, it was beacuse of match winners like sachin, dravid, laxman, kumble, ganguly, zaheer etc & not beacuse of politicain dhoni.
Now they have retired & see team performance.

Why he is saying this

when all the cricket fan know this? Also current team India has best we have got. Some are retained due to there experiance and some position removed has the best possible domestic available player. I dont think any other indian bowler world have done better than current team has and Jadeja is in this position after couple of 300's in ranaji. Only thing i would like to see is Shewag and Rohit to open batting. Shewag can give initial quick run and Rohit can raplace position of Sachin in both test and ODI. Gambir to me always looked strugling against good bowling and he looks to me short tempered you can see it from the time series in australia in 2008.

Also Captain have lot of control in win or loss of team, like Buvaneswar kumar has been used 10 overs up as we know bowler like him can easily be hit in last overs( which he did not do in 1st ODI and it cost us the match even after ahead of run till 49th over of that match).

Average Indian Team and good Captain - JEFF Boycott
by Moses Joseph on Jan 24, 2013 05:49 PM
Captain is the one who controls the game. He decides "to bat" or "to fiels" first. He decides field placements. He decides which bowler to use. He decides the order of batting, even changes it according to field realities during the game. A good captain with a mediocre team wins because of his insight and fore sight. Dhoni and his men have dropped a few crucial catches during current series with England. Yet, Dhoni has steered his team well to win the series. A bit of luck too.

Some times, umpiring has been mediocre. Why don't the Indians agree for the Review Sustem so that effects of errors in umpiring is minimised?

most of the people responsible for that are not in team now. And those series loss also to do with his batting performance. I remember still one test when sachin and amit sharma bated good on 5th day almost till lunch and india needed to just spend 2-3 hours more to draw that test. Had he applied and batted well on that time that test would have drawn. Also he need to give correct approach team member like in kolkata test we could have easily drawn it after giving only 100 odd run lead. Also i see he does not know weather to bat 1st or bowl 1st in tests. Strange even current coach does not seems to know this. We realy miss Garry
