England team is also average
by Happy Friday on Jan 24, 2013 11:55 PM  | Hide replies

They don't have pacers like SA/Aussies have. They are very much like current India team without captain cook. India can become great team, if they find better openers and pacers - easy to say.

dhoni not fit for test
by vinay on Jan 24, 2013 11:47 PM  | Hide replies

test matches doesnt require dhoni whether as player or capt. dhoni losing series 8=0 whitewash against eng/aus n above all losing the revenge series (!!!) at home. that was the worst thing to happen. every1 r afraid to face ind in ind, yet dhoni lost the home series against eng.
dhoni needs to b sacked atleast from test captaincy.

You dont even understand what some one pointed out, who knows cricket much better than u...dhoni can not take 20 wicket in a match ..he can just give ball to a certain bowler..it is upto him to perform..can you just see any world quality bowler in our team..it is just an average bowling unit,,and with that millions of Indian cricket fan fantasising to be on top world on all the format..test or one day or T20.India dosent have a world class wicket keeper batsaman like Dhoni..he may lack the technique , but he overcome it with temprement and fighting instinct..he is a jem

lets put in other words . if u form a world Test 11 , will any of our testbowlers be in that team ? Dont think so .So its a true fact that our team is average in bowling ...we simply dont have a consistent quality bowler in pace as well as spin dept..In test matches , you cant win by scoring runs . You ll have to take 10 wickets twice to win.So keeping this fact in mind , its no wonder our team is referred 'average'.

Well that's true, Dhoni has primarily been criticized for Non Cricketing reasons...

Prime reason: Team selection basis friendship and gut feeling and not performance...

Also I believe the critics are primarily attacking him on his Test captaincy where forget about captaincy he does has not done anything significant to suggest he is a critical part in the Team Composition...

In one-day's, he is a class apart

clive loyd was not a great captain. any one would have given those result with the team having greats like richards greenidge roberts holding fredircks kalicharan etc.
good captain was mike brearly who captained then mediocre england and delivered results.

Well if india is average, then the other teams are below avaerage as India is currently no. 1 in ODI rankings. And pls note that all matches won are not because of Dhoni

Except for Dhoni, there is no one in the team who can be rated highly... hope Kohli will get his form back, otherwise he is also proving ineffective.
Otherwise, India always had 3-5 players who were threatening to opposition.

Blame
by Yogesh Hasabnis on Jan 24, 2013 08:23 PM  | Hide replies

Is team-building not a responsibility of a captain ? Was the captain not aware that the so-called match-winners that Mr. Boycott has mentioned are going to retire one day ?? Does the captain not have any say in team selection and if he has a say then why did the captain not use this influence in searching and selecting the right talent all these days ?? Was he not good enough to even know that some of the older team-mates are either not going to be around or going to lose their form ? Was he not good enough to judge that his team is deteriorating in many areas and he needs to plan something to fill those gaps ? With all the influence that the current captain has why couldn't he use that influence to find the right talent in this nation of one billion-plus ? Shouldn't the captain not be blamed for lack of foresight ?? It's not necessary that only because Mr. Boycott has made some statement, it has to be accepted to be entirely correct.

he has to select playing team from available members for the series.. and in the present team we don't have anyone on bench who is consistent and really good

He is influential enough to select any talented cricketer found anywhere in Indian cricket setup. Remember Sourav Ganguly selected Harbhajan Singh in Australia series of 2001 when Anil Kumble was injured. Harbhajan was not even in the list of probables that time. The captain can give inputs to the selection committee. For that he has to be good enough to understand what's right for his team. He has to fight for the right players if need be as one Sourav Ganguly used to do in his days.

Yogesh....Dhoni cant make the young lot bat and bowl...they are responsible for their own actions....Dhoni has selected the best available team.....but to perform, the young lot has to perform....thats what boycott is saying...the team is average...Captain alone cannot win games..!

Okay, so does that mean that in this nation of one-billion plus which is extremely passionate about there is no talent available to choose from ? If the current team is made up of average cricketers, who is responsible for that ? Certainly not Michael Clarke or Graeme Smith !! It's the Indian captain who is the undisputed leader of Indian cricket, the most powerful person in Indian cricket who is responsible for that.

Mr. Sunil Gavaskar has recently said that the current Indian Captain should be given a break as far as captaincy is concerned - either by choice or a forced one. Mr. Mohinder Amarnath has went on to question the leadership abilities of the current captain. Mr. BishenSingh Bedi has went on to say that the current captain i more than lucky to be retained as a capatain in spite of the number of losses he has lead his team to. Does Mr. Boycott know more about Indian Cricket than Mr. Gavaskar and Mr. Mohiner Amarnath ????

No captain can take 20 wickets on his own as you have pointed out. But he has choose the right resources available in the pool and inspire them, help them and get the best out of them. If that is not happening for so long - it's 18 months now that Team India is losing - then obviously the fault lies in the captain.
