ganguly was good capt but his reaching team ind in wc final in 2003 was mainly thanx to kenya coming in semis of wc.else v wud hv faired miserably even in 2003 wc.

So Vinay, leading upto the semis, I suppose Kenya had a lot to do with India winning every game except the one against Australia? Gimme a break!

India lost prel game to Aus, but that's not the point. We did well in 2003. Ganguly captained at a different timepoint and started the renaisance in Indian cricket post-Azhar scandal etc. Dhoni has a very different challenge. Only common challenges is India's poor success abroad, and that hasn't changed. Overall, in a country severely lacking in genuine leaders both Ganguly and Dhoni are exceptionally good.
Abousulety true! HE is the best which INDIA has had so far! No one can beat DADA! It was a conspiracy of Chappel who shud have got a chappal.....It is only becoz of this that australia won the world cup in WI becoz DADA left the captaincy, or else we all know what wud have been the result!

lets check sachin's battign record as a captain...
Sachin captained India in 25 test matches, between 1996 to 2000. (4 vs Australia, 3 vs New Zealand, 8 vs South Africa, 5 vs Sri Lanka and 5 vs West Indies). Tendulkar made 2054 runs as captain with 7 centuries, average of 51.35, best of 217 and even took 4 wickets with best bowling of 3 for 10 wkts against South Africa
Yes we didn't win as much as what we would have liked, and at best lets even say sachin was nto a good capatin. But to say he relinquished captaincy wisely since it was affecting his batting doesn't really seem true to me...sicne he was batting well as a captain.
I rather think he left it becasue the team wasn't doing great, something which not many indian captains do.
The likes of Pataudi and Ganguly were from more well to do families and belonged to higher strata of society.Pataudi in fact was a real Nawab and so they had perhaps inherited the natural bold leadership qualities which were not generally found among other Indian captains.Both Pataudi and Ganguly could also be credited for rebuilding the side and Ganguly was lucky to have some of the most talented lots in his team.That way Ganguly was an underachiever considering that he had the best ever young Indian side.So, going by results and achievements Dhoni easily scores over everybody including Ganguly.Another distinctive quality of Dhoni is his unparallelled 'gambling' instinct which often helps him wriggle out tight spots.Most of the other captains would succumb and lose the match for sure under such conditions.

True, Dhoni's personal emergence and triumph is very inspiring. Somewhat like Kapil Dev's. However mere well to do upbringing alone didn't help Ganguly. I am post- Patuadi era, so can't talk about that! Our country severely lacks genuine leadership, and both Dhoni and Ganguly are exceptional.
Unfortunately this article is a flattery to please SAURAV GANGULY. DHONI IS A PLAYER BELONGING TO SMALL PLACE HIS RECORD AND FIGHTING SPIRIT IS A TESTIMONY.A TOTALLY BIASED AND PREJUDICED VIEW WHICH IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE

Sad, The era you seem to see in today. paatuadi was a great captain, SO was Ganguly. World cups are not a point of quality, because the captain that leads a test side which has high quality of thought and Intelligence. World cups are the slam bang thank you man, kinds. lUck plays a important part. Over a period of five days, in Alien Soils, and pitches. Test Cricket is intelligent cricket. At an young age fast seems ok, but with age sense common sense, patience, Intelligence, Craftiness, Crockedness, and virtues that needs development with time is what will make the man succeed in life.So I consider Ganguly and Patuadi better placed.
