Thank you for the article. These are the very reasons I rate the Wall higher than the Master but its sad not many see it as they are blinded by the aura of a demi god

You probably never saw the other side of the story. There's just no way dravid is even close to sachin's batsmanship.......

thanks for this wonderful article....whilst highlighting dravid's greatness and I must admit I was never a great admirer of his slow scoring given that he could play all shots, it also higlighted tendulkars weakness....to deliver when it matters most and in the aspect its not just dravid but also laxman and ganguly who is way above tendulkar....u have to think hard when someone asks when was the last time sachin single handedly won us a game when the chips were down(its tough to remember even once)....ask the same question about dravid or laxman and quite a few recent test matches will spring to mind!!!!

You must rate Micheal bevan greater than Don bradman , ricky ponting and gilchrist. Otherwise , I will be sad..... Check how poorly dravid has fared against the best teams, bowlers of our era. His averages against SA and australia are below average. His tons against them are a rare phenomena. Just try and remember when did he do well against the best bowlers of our era. Out of his 4 tons against tese teams, 3 were scored when other players had scored double tons in the match. Whereas the great sachin has almost 40 tons against them ..Many of them eternal display of batsmanship. Sachin was often the lone warrior unlike dravid who never scored in losing causes. He played well when someone else was there with him. If all players in the team are dravid, the team will just score 227 runs in a day. This is dravid and you peiple thionk of him as someone else. He was a good good batsman but not great. He was droped from the ODI team twice. And, in 1998 season he was dropped because his strike rate in ODIs was a pathetic 53. He was side lined from his own team Banglore in IPL too. He never dominated the best bowlers. Whoever batted with him, felt pressure. Dravid never took rosks, his partners had to do that. No cricket expert or great bowler rates him even in their top 3 batsman of the era. Forget about comparing to the best of them all- SACHIN ramesh tendulkar. All eyes were always on sachin. In the mean time, dravid kept doing his business. He was not sachin !!!

you are wrong. In as much as cricket is a team game it also relies in individual brilliance in cruch situations for stars to emerge. And stars have to be compared based on how they have delivered in cruch situations, I think the article is right on dot in that respect.

In our country most of us confuse cricket with games like Hockey and Football which require entire team co-ordination every other minute. Cricket is not in that mould at all, At any point only two or at best 3 to 4 individuals are in co-ordination. There has to be flashes of Individual brilliance to emerge from ranks and be regarded as a great!

You may be a wonderful writer.. comparisons make absolutely zero sense.. invest your time in writing non-controversial articles.. clearly you are Dravid fan and desperately want him to be recognized more than Sachin or simpyl because Sachin is this huge figure in Cricket you are totally jealous about it like a few thousands out there bitching about his every move.. Tendulkar is the reason several youngsters have picked up Cricket as a profession.. Dravid has been equally remarkable in tests but the moment you draw comparisons you lose your stance as a fair observer.. so with your "beautiful" you want the world to be in agreement with you and under weigh all that Sachin has achieved?? Sachin counts runs.. Dravid counts minutes in his batting.. both are acceptable approaches.. I wouldn't weigh one more than the other.. How easily you accuse a legend like Sachin that he plays for stats.. anybody would feel let down if you declare at 194.. he moved past it and don't think he made it a huge issue.. the media blows up everything which is filled with people like you.. no one really cares about the media anymore.. at least the sensible ones..

Ravi Bhaskar, this is one of the best articles that I have ever read about cricket. It is true that Sachin has achieved many things for him in cricket but Dravid in turn achieved it for India. Dravid will really be missed.

This is just a blind praise of one and degrading other. IF sachin's contributuion to cricket be let open and documented, this will seem nothing....Sachin is the only one because of whom india's win to loss ration went above 1 after his entry to cricket. It was pathetic before him.

Dravid the great batsman
by rahine bose on Mar 17, 2012 01:46 AM  | Hide replies

Sachin is miles away from the caliber of Dravid .... Sachin got the luxury to get batting greats like Dravid and Ganguly to shield him through most of his career . Plus Sachin has played 7 more years than Dravid and 10 more than Ganguly . If Dravid or Ganguly were to play those 7 years they would have crossed Sachin by a huge margin ... so one should compare Apple with Apple .... and in the last 16 years ,,,, Dravid's all round performance has been stupendous .... I take a bow to hail the World's greatest number 3 and an all time great .... As far as im concerned watching cricket is over ... it was only for Dravid that I used to watch for the last 16 years ....
