With due respect to swargiya Dhyanchand I would like to point out here that the three gold medals in succession were won by the Indian team and not by late Shri Dhyanchand. Of course his contribuation to the game was amazing. The very fact that his hockey stick was repeatedly checked by the foreign teams to find the magic of his stick speaks volume of his ability to play the game and therefore no Indian should have any grudge against awarding BR to Dhyanchand. However, it was Khashaba Jadhav from rural Maharashtra who had won the first individual olympic medal for India. It was of course not the Gold medal but the situation and the circumstances in which he won the medal would throw light on sports policy in yesteryears. Forget about coaching and all, when he expressed his desire to participate in Olympic event, he was not supported by the then Central Government. Late Mr. Morarji Desai who was the CM of then Bombay state refused to give any financial help to him. Finally his school teacher sold his house for his student and provided funds to him. It was only after he won the medal he was given a job of Sub Inspector in Mumbai Police. For him it was more than a BR. This post is only to appraise new generation of the ordeals faced by the sportsmen in olden days.
SRT doesnt deserve a BR both on cricketing as well as personal grounds.. He might have lot of records.. but on the basis of major contributions towards victories SRT doesnt deserve.. Personally he is a tax-evader.. claimed he is an "ACTOR" and not a cricketer to evade tax.. slowing up while reaching milestone.. crying when dravid declared.. If v award BR to such a person it wud be great insult
If sachin is not there, does govt. change the rule to give BH to sports person? If yes then no problem. Irony is who is responsible for changing the rule, does not receive the honor.
Viswanathan Anand is the only person who holds the world champion title (has hold it for quiet a long time as well). He single handedly has brought so much of pride for India and the world respects him so much for his talent.

Viswanathan is not the current champion, he did not win the championship when chess greats were there. Best person would be Prakash padukone, who was world number one for some time and also world champion

Sachin has achieved records which "NO ONE" has achieved and this is not just about Indians. Abhinav Bindra has won "INDIA'S" first individual gold. He is not the 1st man on the planet to win Olympic Gold. so in comparison, Bindra should get Bharat Ratna if outscores every man in the world i.e wins more golds than any one has ever won.

For your kind information, winning gold let alone Abhinav bindra has not even qualified for the coming Olympics

By the same logic , Bindra is more deserving than Sachin because he competes in a sport played by more than a 100 countries and not just 8 or 9 test playing nations in the world . People in europe, south america , Asia ( not south asia ) have not even heard of cricket and sachin tendulkar . U cannot compare Olympics with cricket .
