That is the greatness of VVSL. Time for his to retire with grace and not till selectors throw him out.A gentleman cricketer with lot of qualities which today's cicketers (younsters) should emulate. Thank you Laxman all the very best for your life ahead

Yes, we have the great sachin !!! He would play as far as he enjoys cricket, for him, age is not the criteria, as far as selectors allow him to play.
Laxman shouldn't care about the comments that he is blocking the way of youngsters. He is our only match winner, the guy who breached the enemy territory only to let the others get in and make merry.
Sanjay Manjrekar's only cricketing claim is his ancestry and is not fit enough to give even the commentary, leave alone commenting about skills of Laxman! He has to keep his mouth sealed and think before he opens it

Munna, Sanjay was labeled as next Sunil Gavaskar by none other than Imran Khan... He withstood fiery pace of Pakis & Windies and scored centuries abroad.. No doubt he failed after that, but who is consistent.. The likes of Tendulkar's and Laxman's have played 8 consecutive test matches with out century & most importantly we lost all of them.

think before you speak is not a trait of indian commentators. Richie Benaud once wrote down the various things a commentator should do. One of those was : Engage your brain before you speak !!!

what was this manjrekar then and what is he today - a mere commander with borken english, behaving as if he is custodian and guardian of cricket - he is just pulling on by viture of his commentary

absolutely , has to be the most pessimistic commentator in the world almost all his words will be may be or perhaps etc. boring to the hilt
deepika pallikal, the squash player, has stormed into semis of ausi squash tourney. she is better player n better looking beauty than any other player like sania mirza. even better than deepika padukone.
People can often get totally senseless. Cricketers should remember that they are not in the show business although they are almost as popular as the reel stars. Playing cricket is not a popularity contest although the present day cricketers (unlike in the yesteryears) have a brand value and can make a handsome income from endorsements.
Public outcry made Ravi Shastri retire prematurely. Believe it or not he had a double century in his final series that too in Australia.
Masala cricket (T20, ODI etc.) may be a popularity contest but not test cricket. It is all about grit and performance which VVS has shown in plenty.

Ravi final series was not australia , it was in 1992 in SA , played 3 matches and was clearly struggling , more due to injuries than form.

no dear his last series was world cup 1992, he never toured South Africa... Plus RAVI had brains good acumen to become a commentator. Laxman much better than shasrtri, although lesser in tactics..

check records mate. google search or use any other medium. After SA 1992-93 he never played for india
I am not sure if the reports of his impending retirement are true. If these reports and if the reason given by his long time coach (that VVS wants the new players to get exposure at home rather than be thrown into wilderness abroad) for his retirement are true, then I SALUTE THE MAN for his grace and timing.
Before I conclude, I just want to share one thought of mine: That, if I were the selector or captain, I would have always asked VVS to bat at No.3 in my team.

As mentioned Long Live the likes of VVS. It is very hard to replace the flamboyance, elegance, wristy and ruthless determination of our own VERY VERY SPECIAL LAXMAN. But one has to retire at some stage. Hope if the Indian cricket board gives Laxman a chance for the ENGLAND TOUR and Laxman scores heavily and end the career on a very high note & remain a very good ideal for the youngsters like Virat, Cheteshwar, Rohit, Ajinkya and others. IT IS VERY HARD TO REPLACE THE PLAYERS OF DRAVID, GANGULY & LAXMAN.
