Gasvakar was the best batsman the world cricket has ever seen. He was the most intelligent captain India has ever produced and that was clearly prooved in 1985 mini world cup also.
i remember-gavaskar and several other players of bombay like shastri etc played only for personal milestones and not for the country unless they themselves were captains like ganguly.kapil was matchless and lion hearted.

Sachin facing Akhtar, den stell with helmate on the head. Gavaskar faced lilly, Thommo with no guard to cover the head. Gavaskar scores most of his runs against Windies attack of those days having Joel garner, holding, croft n roberts. thts too without helmate. Lets u decide who is better.

Viswanath is good player no doubt. But what is the logic of playing well only when the team wins? A great player should play well in every match irrespective of opposition and conditions. Did we check how many times India lost with Viswanath in team?

vishwanath is the one person who faced the fearsome fast bowlers fearlessly than the so called Gavaskars and Sachin. He is the player who plalyed in all conditions than the people whom I mentioned earlier. Whenever he scored centuries India never lost a test. This is for your information . He is truly a legend. It is a great pity some people always critcise him. He is a selfless cricketer rather than the selfish players like Gavaskars and Tendulkars.

THE BEST OPENING PAIR INDIA HAS EVER PRODUCED IS SONIA-MANMOHAN. THEY NEVER PERFORM BUT ALWAYS BAT, KEEPING ALIVE INDIA'S TRADITION OF LOSING MATCHES.....
Sunil Gavaskar is the Best Batsman of Test Cricket, let us nothave any dispute over it. He played cricket with passion, with minimum protection, against the best teams then. He had commented in a lighter vein (not a challenge, mind you)before the 1987 world cup that he would one day score a 50 before srikkanth scores it & achieved that in a match before he retired. He had cordial relations with all the players in the team & across the globe, needless to say, he liked the flashy attitude of srikkanth. Please remember, he has lot of fans in West Indies and even now Sir IVA Richards rates him as the best opening batsman in the world. He played the slowest knock in a world cup, but was India boasting too muany ODIs then? He could not, may be, come out of test mould then. Please remember, 250 runs in an innings in a ODI, 300 runs in a day in a test match etc were once considered as something impossible to achieve. How many players have the stamina to play SIX test matches on the trot in a series? Shame, they cannot even keep themselves fit for few months. Whereas Sunil and cricketers of his era played for years without big injuries.Let us stop comparing players of different era & diminish a player's glory.
Kapil Dev the jat fixer is undoubtedly the most hyped cricketer. His 173 came against a pathetically weak side, his world cup win was a team effort at best. Kapil fixer was sobbed like a woman on TV.

Were you hibernating when the same pathetically weak side had earlier on reduced India to 17 for 5?

Vivek Dev:
a) he scored 175 b) the pathetically weak side had us on the mat when he arrived c) who told you he is supposed to have won a world cup? He never played against either Amritraj, Ramesh Krishnan or Boris Becker...

AP Thanks for the correction He scored against Zimbabwe who were newcomers at the time, if i am not wrong So what if India got reduced to 17 for 5. So did that make the team a world beating side. Agreed he did not play against Amritraj, Ramesh Krishnan, Boris Becker. Yes and he did not play against Bob Fisher and Karpov either. And he was involved in fixing and had to be bailed out by Justice Chandrachud

Yes at times even upright people like the good judge are required to bail some icons out in yeh mera Hindia. Like Tendulkar had to stand in for Bhajji in the Symonds racial slur controversy.

PR- Sportsmen are not supposed to cheat. Kapil did just that by fixing matches. Others like Jadeja, Prabhakar were also involved. So should Kapil be forgiven just because he was a better cricketer. Kapil cannot be a role model.

All that doesn't hold much water if you can't prove he fixed matches. Inspite of all that, he was greatest match winner for India with both bat n ball alone...and not to mention what a great athlete he was. He played 134 test matches uninterrupted...except for one match where he was dropped not for fitness reasons, but on political grounds.
