was that the only ODI innings that Gavaskar played? Was 100 of 85 balls at Nagpur 1987 WC match played by Venkatraghavan?
During his era G. Vishwanath was a matchwinner and much more attractive player who scored under very testing conditions. Lot of media hype is made of Gavaskar scoring runs against WI. Infact he exploited WI bowling whenever it was not deadly. It does not mean WI always had fast bowlers. In 71, 74 WI relied more on spin in WI. In 1978 Wi was a second string team led by Kallicharan. In 1984 Gavaskar scored in drawn insignificant matches eg 234 * in Chennai when no competitive interest left and everyone knew it would be rain interrupted draw right from start. Most Hyped player ever.

Does a record of 25 wins; 40 draws and 45 losses not look much better than 25 wins; 10 draws and 75 losses?
No team wins every match that they play, do they? Its high time you realise that when you are facing a situation where the match cannot be won in any case, it requires some special skill to play out a draw.

Back to the "match winner" syndrome - are we? :)
OK... he is a useless player, who took his runs home. We like Vishwanath's runs more becoz they got added to the team total and we NEVER lost or drew a match when Vishwanath was in the team...
gavaskar was a better batsman than sachin. sachin is most over hyped and over credited batsman till now. sachin bats in a team over flowing with 50 plus average players and still some idiots think that he bats under pressure. fact is gavaskar could not afford to bat aggressively because his team mates were never as good as sachin's team mates. the best support that gavaskar ever got was vengsarkar, vishwanath and amarnath all averaging in their early forties. compare this with sachin who bats with playes like sehwag, gambhir, dravid all 50 plus average players. besides there is also laxman who also batted with over 50 runs average for the last many years (exclude his first 2-3 years when he was not so successful) Besides that sachin also had azhar, ganguly and now dhoni who all had average in the late forties. besides dhoni since he became captain scores at 50 plus average. compare this with gavaskar he just could not afford to play aggressively and fast. give sachin gavaskar's team mates and sachin will not have such a great record. give gavaskar the stability that sachin bats with (like sehwag, gambhir, dravid, laxman, azhar, ganguly, dhoni etc. and gavaskar would have been able to play freely and would have been recognised as a attacking batsman.
besides as mentioned else where in this discussion gavaskar has played well so many times in fourth innings chases many times 400 plus chases to help india win or draw the match. also in the famous tied test he made 90 runs.

:) nice to see you not only trying to compare apples with oranges (players across two eras) but throwing in grapes, strawberries, guavas and pineapples in the mix just to show that you can type... :)

Yes, I can see that you also can type very well ...:)
But really i would appreciate it if you stick to the topic and dont bring irrelevant topics in the discussion. this is a cricket forum and it would be better if restrict yourself to your cricket opinions. if you want to talk about fruits, vegetables or whatever please do that in the relevant forums not here. If you want to show off that you have knowledge of names of fruits like oranges, apples, strawberries, guavas pinepples etc. point noted. I am really impressed and very happy that you are doing your homework well and paying attention to whatever your playgroup teacher teaches you ... :)

The most overhyped and overcredited batsman todate is Amir Khan from Lagaan.
