"A Team of Champions, not a Champion Team"
by Vailixi T on Jan 15, 2012 01:47 AM

This was the heading of one Australian newspaper. Yes, it looked like that. A bunch of cricketers playing for individual glory. At the start of the Melbourne game, Hussey said that they would make it hard for Tendulkar to make his 100. In hind sight, the Australian team had correctly figured out that this series was all about Tendulkar's 100. When Tendulkar misfired the whole team melted away like butter on a torrid pavement. Is it Worthy of Glory for Tendulkar to retire now, or fire the 100th 100 against teams like Bangladesh or Zimbabwe? That would be too shamefully desperate, trying too hard. That is not the sign of a Champion. Glory follows the champion. When the champion seeks glory, the world ceases to remember him/her favourably.

My prediction after India wins the commonwealth bank Odi series as usual everything will be forgotten and the media will worship the mass run getters and record holders of our team.

Jacob, there is nothing wrong in forgetting such losses "IF" India wins the ODI series (but i agree with you that worship is not correct).

Who Cares?INDIA MUST Ban TEST CRICKET and MUST refuse to PLAY Test Cricket and Longer versions of cricket matches Immediately!Seeing all the
excitement of One day criket and T20 matches and seeing excitement of One Day Matches, Anna Hazare&team of patriots MUST write and OPEN letter to
ICC and to all governments to BAN Boring and never-ending and time-wasting TEST
Cricket and ranji cricket, duleep trophy cricket ets FOREVER? shame ann ahazare
and patriots are NOT making a national agitation to BAN poverty-rpoducing and
time-wasting and BORING Test CRicket Forever? The exciting One day matches compared to
BoringandNever-endingandTime-wastingTEST matches Prove why TEST matches and Ranji &dulpee trophy macthes MUSTe Banned in Poor nations since they cannot afford to WASTE Millions of man or wowman hours every year! This wastage of time has made us POOR adnd Backward aswished by the british crooks who imported this game like improting the mahatma
and non-violence dirty trick to make hindus morrons and ennuchs and lazy
forever too! ! What a Shame! ONLY One day cricketmatches, 50 over or 20 over or 10 over games must be ALLOWED to be Played in
ourcountry and ONLY on week-ends of Holidays so that we DO NOT waste millions ofhours every year and To prevent us becoming a Poor nation forever too!

correct line should be "India's chances of winning Test series ever against Aus in Aus is over.."

Cause in last visit, we won ODI Tri-series beating Aus 2-0 in best 3 final..And, here Gavaskar is poiting this ongoing test series only..

Pravin, in modern English, it has become an acceptable norm to omit auxiliary verbs (like the word "are" in the news title here). Though it may not be grammatically very correct and an orthodox writer would still use the word are.

Sunil Gavaskar, most valuable batsman
by Face Dude on Dec 31, 2011 02:18 PM  | Hide replies

Undoubtedly he is the most valuable Indian batsman ever! Not just by the runs he scored but his presence lent India such solidity that the team never got into a situation of a whitewash in test cricket. His entry was by far the most sensational in 1971 in WI - which is why the old WI still consider him as the little genius. He held sobers, roberts, marshall, lilee, thomson, wills, botham, holding and so many others at bay for such a long time... there was a time (in late 70s and early 80s) that if sunny is around in the middle one can be rest assured that India may not lose the match anytime soon. He was the only batsman to have provided the perfect foil for the spin quartet and later Kapil dev.

Others who followed him or those who played before him were not as solid or as consistent as sunny was considering the opposition he faced and the times he played....

irony is that every tom dick and harry is claiming to be valuable player and want BR, PS, PV, KR awards at once... And they go to press at the stroke of their hair... listen to the words of sages first before beating your own petty drums...

Only India Gandhi, her kith and kin, servants, Keeps are qualified for naming after Roads, Airports and cities. We can have names of people like YSR to the states. We can give Bharat Ratna to MGR and Satyajit Ray. So why not to Tendulkar or Vishwanath Anand who brought honors to the country?

Why are we not saying about Australians doing well only in Australia? Did they do well in India?
