3 Players
by RAKESH NAIR on Dec 31, 2011 08:26 AM  | Hide replies

Time has come to "Judge" the 3 players "Sachin", "Dravid" & "Laxman" Contribution to the "Team"..
These 3 Players Only think abt there "Batting" while they are "Fielding".
Prime Example is "Dravid" who "Dropped" so many catches in "2011" but is the Highest rungetter in 2011.
Nobody can "Replace" these 3 players primarily on the basis of "Batting"(They r best) but there "Contribution" towards "Team cause", we might be forced to think "Otherwise"....

I agree Catches win matches but hope u know Rahul is the most catcher for Indian team...Nobody can replace these three becoz no one is in pipeline half good as they are..simple as that...Plus they all are performing good...win and loss is part of game. What Gambhir,Kohli,Dhoni ...Had they did 30-40 runs in each innings result would have been different...but let bygone is bygone.

Sunny Gavaskar, the great
by Face Dude on Dec 31, 2011 07:14 AM  | Hide replies

Can someone replicate the fighting knock he played at the same ground in 1980, when India was chasing 275 runs to avoid innings defeat. Sunny scored 175 and gave India a lead of 142 to defend., Then Kapil the great took over and bundled Australia for 108 runs. What a memorable match that was.. fighting spirit to the core...
How spineless and shameless the current bunch of Indians compared to that.. not worthy of following the great legacy that they have left behind.

Well said Gavaskar...
by Ravi on Dec 31, 2011 05:20 AM  | Hide replies

Gavaskar's reason make a lot of sense...

1. We haven't been able to reach the 300 mark which is so important in test matches.
2. We chickened in 2nd innings at Melbourne on a batsmen friendly wicket.
3. Aussie bowling attack was pretty average for our world famous batting line up.
4. The defensive captaincy of Dhoni was very obvious on the 3rd day of test specially, a lot of lost opportunities, specially when Ponting and Hussey were going good.
5.Finally, there doesn't seem to be the hunger to excel in the current Indian team. Time to make few senior heads roll to get the message down the wire.

Overall I agree with Gavaskar, this series is almost over with this kind of attitude of Indian players.

I agree with your writeup except for one thing. Our batsmen are not 'world famous but only "Indian famous " as we are the ones referring to them all the time as world famous.

None of our batsmen excluding Tendulkar looked comfortable on a like just outside the off stump.

I don't know what these guys have been practising in the nets.

indian pPacer dDelimma and short batsmen
by D S on Dec 31, 2011 05:00 AM  | Hide replies

india has two pronged problem.

1. Delimma is indian paceman bowling like Aussies or Angrez bowlers. One of the bowlers has admitted that Mcgrath is his person to follow. that means bowling what videshis are used to.

When indian pacers are bowling against indian batsmen. they are made to bowl like Australian or angrez bowlers such that indian batsmen can be prepared to face opposition. You can see gambhir asking Ishant to mimic opposition bowling for his preparation. Tendulkar asking yadav and zaheer to hit and angle like angrez and aussie bowlers.

Which leaves indian bowlers bowling to aussie batting what they are already used to and have prepared on nets against Aussie bowling. indian dilemma being Indian bowler cCaged into fFeeding indian batsmen.

Instead of preparing to ape videshi bowling, desi bowlers need to on larger extent should focus their bowling on the squares on pitch without desi batsmen and reviewing their bowling (that is recorded) as to how it can counter videshi batting action and moves to hit wicket or get snick by drawing the batting into a catch. reviewing the control swing, angles, rise, etc.

2. Aussies have planned their bowling to tTrouble sShort batsmen. Do we have any tall batsmen with good eye on bBall? Shorter batsmen will have to be a bit better with shot selection as their reach gets limited for rRising bBalls and they have nobody to aApe.

continued..

Even with practicing videshi style bowling for sake of indian batting, indians cannot get the videshi bowling style fully and thus desi batting gets flummoxed.

dravid was so focussed on checking out hussey batting that he dropped a sitter off ashwin.

In fact its easy for short batsmen...Bowlers can not threaten them much with bouncers etc..They can easily duck...and bowler run outta juice anyways...height is not,was never criteria to play good cricket...
